ANGELS OF MARY ACADEMY

Antipolo city, Rizal

Lesson Plan

Subject: SCIENCE Date: August 1-2, 2018

Teacher: Dominador Masirag Grade: Grade 9

CONTENT STANDARD:

The Learners demonstrate understanding of how genetic information is organized in

genes on chromosomes

PERFORMANCE STANDARD

The Learners should be able to differentiate

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to;
a. identify the importance of the number of chromosomes in defining the
genetic characters;
b. define the terms homologous chromosomes, haploid, diploid, and
gametes ;
c. apply the the understanding of chromosomes number and gene function.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: heredity and variation: chromosome structure and function
No. of hours: 1 hours 40 minutes
Materials: Visual Aids, PowerPoint Presentation
References: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 8 by Marie Jessica B. Alumaga, Echel
Simon-Antero…on page 72 to 79
III. PROCEDURES:
A. Daily Routine
Prayer, Greetings, Warm up, Checking of Assignment and attendance
B. Motivation:
In this world there are a lot of creatures and existences.
So how can we differentiate ourselves by all the creatures?
Or what are the differences between a human and an ape?
Today we will discuss the number of chromosomes of all living creatures?
C. ACTIVITIES:
Ask the student will differentiate the numbers of chromosome of common
animals. (Turn your pages on 75)
Using the activity sheet study the karyotype of a man or a woman and
differentiate them.
D. ANALYSIS:
Based on the activity awhile back,
Cells may be classified according to function namely
1. Vegetative, somatic or body cells; and
2. Reproductive

Ask: What are vegetative, somantic or body cells?

How about the reproductive cells?
What is the difference between vegetative cells and reproductive cells?
E. ABSTRACT:
Discuss the homologous chromosomes
Ask: how do vegetative or somatic cells maintain their chromosomes
numbers?
How do sexually reproducing organism maintain the chromosomes
numbers of their species?
F. APPLICATION:
Ask: How can our understanding of chromosomes number benefit us?
What are the practical applications of our knowledge of genes in
chromosomes?
IV. ASSESSMENT:
Essay: based on the kinds of chromosomes, in what ways are human males and
females different from each other?
V. ASSIGNMENT
1. What is species extinction?
2. What are some of the species that have become extinct?
3. Why do species become extinct?
