CONCLUSION

It was said in the interview of Miss Bambao that there will also be another emergency

exit which will be adjacent to the 11 STEM 4 classrooms to service 11 STEM 3 and 11 STEM 2.

Possible improvements could also be given regarding that emergency exit and its route. Seeing

as it is however, there can still be improvements that can be implemented in the facilities of the

school especially in the emergency exit routes. Furthermore, new ways could also be found out

or branched out with some of the improvements that will be recommended. Most answers would

comprise of setting emergency exits that follow all the standards set by the Bureau of Fire

Department. Some, however, would also give their own solutions and some suggestions that the

researchers have tried to give have been accepted while some have been denied. A fire axe, as

told by all of the interviewees, even if it would be useful since the school’s doors are made of

wood, was denied because it would be used in a wrong way that would lead to murder or violent

tendencies among the school’s population. It makes sense which is why it was denied, but there

were suggested substitutes such as a fire hose and the sprinklers. Sprinklers were debatable since

it would cost too much.

RECOMMENDATION

There are many possible ways that improvements can be given in the emergency exits of Saint

Louis School Inc. (Center) High school Department. As much as possible, there should be more

emergency exits accessible throughout the school since the students would be everywhere when

a disaster strikes. An additional emergency exit may provide additional safety just in case. A

sprinkler should also be added for every classroom since the classrooms are made of wood which

are highly flammable as well as in the laboratories where most of the flammable or combustible

24
materials are being handled. Floors should be roughened especially in the emergency exits such

as the hallway because if an evacuation is being done while the weather is disagreeable then

students might slip and may fall into even more danger. Since the doors in the classrooms are not

possible to be reversed, the focus of that will be in the laboratories where the doors can only be

pushed in the inside so that exiting will be easier. Furthermore, it will also be self-closing so that

those who exit the room will not be able to come back in and cause a jam. The gate of the new

emergency exit will be given a suggestion of having its gate only to be pushed and not pulled.

Again, this is for the ease of access of the population of the institution. The stairs also leading to

the open area after the gate will be roughened so that accidents like slipping would be avoided.

In the emergency exit that will be opened near the 11 STEM 4 classroom, it may also be possible

to implement an exit chute that helps evacuate the population faster and safer. Lastly, the route

towards the back gate should be implemented and replaced for the route going to the garden

since the BFP has already recommended it to be a safer measure than that in the garden.
