JOINING UNDERGRADUA

Dear Students,

Congratulations on getting selected for admission to the lndian lnstitute of Technology Roorkee
through the prestigious JEE Advanced-2018 examination. lt is my pleasure to welcome you to lndian lnstitute of
Technology Roorkee, the oldest technical lnstitution of the country. I hope that your stay at this Institute will be
pleasant and memorable. The academic environment at this lnstitute will help in building your career.

(A) lmportant Instructions:

({) Registration Schedule:

Registration shall start at 8.00 a.m. on 20 July, 2018 (Friday) at Convocation Hall, llT Roorkee. The
timings of registration for various branches has been staggered (Schedule enclosed). Students must
report for registration accordingly.

(2) Accommodation:
Boys and girls will be allotted rooms in Rajendra Bhawan and Sarojini Bhawan, respectively. Accordingly,
'students are advlsed to report at the respective Bhawans after completing the registration. Students will
have to make their own arrangement prior to registration and report to the lnstitute as per the schedule.

Parents/Guardians/accompanying persons(s) will not be allowed to stay in hostel rooms with their wards.
They should make their own arrangements for their stay.

(3) Orientation Programme:

The Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students is scheduled from July 21 to July 23,2018.
Please note that participation in the Orientation Programme is compulsory.

(4) Language Proficiency Test:

It is mandatory for each candidate to appear in the Language Proficiency Test of about one hour and
fifteen minutes on July 22,2018 (Sunday) in the New Lecture Hall Complex of the lnstitute. Further
details regarding the test are available in Annexure-Vll.

(5) Roorkee Bus Stand and Roorkee Railway Station:

Roorkee Bus stand and Roorkee Railway Station respectively are at a distance of 200 mtr and 3.00 km
from the lnstitute. Please note that no railway-fare concession is allowed forjoining the lnstitute.
(B) Payment of Fee:

(1) lnstitute Fee (Tuition Fee + Hostel Rent+ Other charges) for Autumn Semester 2018-19:

A. lnstitute Fee is Rs.'1,23,4801 (Rs. One lakh twenty three thousand four hundred eighty) for General
and OBC students. The Student who has already paid Rs-35,000/- (Rs.33,5001 Institute fee plus
Rs.1,5001 as processing charges) at the time of allotment of seats, have to pay Rs.89,980/- (Rs.
Eighty nine thousand nine hundred eighty) as lnstitute fee at the time of Registration on
20 July,2418.

 B. Complete tuition Fee is waived off for SC, ST & PD students. However, Other Fee/charges + Hostel
Rent amounting to Rs.23,480/- (Rs. Twenty three thousand four hundred eighty) is payable.
The Student who has already paid Rs.15,000/- (Rs.13,500/- Institute fee plus Rs.1,500/- as
processing charges) at the time of allotment of seats, have to pay Rs.9,980/- (Rs. Nine thousand nine
hundred eighty) as Institute fee at the time of Registration on 20 July, 2018.
Note: Excess amount paid (if any) by the students at the time to seat allotment shall be refunded.
(2) Mess Fee for Autumn Semester 2018-19:
Mess Fee is Rs.15,000/- (Rs. Fifteen thousand) for all the students.

Total Fee Payment at the time of registration:

1. For General & OBC students:
Rs.89,980/- (Institute Fee) + Rs.15,000/- (Mess Fee) = Rs.1,04,980/- *(online payment)
2. For SC / ST / PH students:
Rs.9,980/- (Institute Fee) + Rs.15,000/- (Mess Fee) = Rs.24,980/- *(online payment)
*Complete fee payment (including Institute fee and Mess fee) to be made if payment is done online.
(C) Mode of Payment:
1. Online Payment: Online payment can be made by using the following steps:

Step 2. Select the check box and click on “Proceed” button
Step 3. Select Payment Category “IITR UG Admission Fee (New Entrant)” and fill the details.

2. Payment for Institute fee can also be made offline by Bank Demand Draft in favor of ‘Registrar, IIT
Roorkee’ and Mess fee in the name of ‘Chairman, CCB IIT Roorkee’. Bank Demand Draft should
be payable at Roorkee only.

(D) Documents required at the time of Registration:

1. Documents Related to Students:
(i) The offer letter of JEE Advanced-2018 issued by the organizing Chairman JEE Advanced-2018.
(ii) Original Mark sheets & Certificates of 10th Class and 12th Class or their equivalent together with
one self-attested photocopy of each.
(iii) Category Certificate (if applicable). OBC certificate should have been issued after March 31, 2017
by a competent authority not below the rank of SDO.
(iv) Transfer/Migration and character certificate in original.
(v) The original receipt/proof for the payment of Rs.35,000/-(General/OBC), Rs.15,000/-(SC/ST/PD)
made by you as registration fee at the time of seat allotment for adjustment.
(vi) Colour passport size photographs - 10 numbers.

CONTINUATION OF STUDY AT IIT ROORKEE

I have been informed about the rule of Termination of Enrolment on Academic Ground:
The enrolment of a student in a programme, shall stand terminated if he/she fails to earn the
minimum number of credits specified at different yearly levels in the programme as given in
Appendix-‘J’, notwithstanding the fact that the student has or has not been put under academic
probation. Semester withdrawal will be excluded to determine the yearly level of a student for this
purpose. This condition will also not be applicable if a student is not allowed to register for the
courses of current year in accordance with 18(2). The communication regarding termination of
enrolment shall be issued by the Academic Section within fifteen days from the date of
declaration of results.

The minimum requirement of earned credits and CGPA for continuation of registration is given in
the table given below.

Information for new Entrants to UG programme

Congratulations on qualifying JEE -Advanced and most welcome to join us at IIT

Roorkee!

Travel:

Roorkee is 180 km from Delhi and the nearest airport is in Dehradun which is approximately
60 km away. Except for Roorkee/Hardwar/Dehradun bound trains, reaching Roorkee via Delhi
is most advisable. If you are travelling from Delhi you can board a
Roorkee/Hardwar/Dehradun bound train/bus. The bus services to and fro Delhi-Roorkee are
quite frequent. You can board the bus to Roorkee from Maharana Pratap I.S.B.T. Kashmiri
Gate, New Delhi. The train services are also quite regular. For instance, you can board
Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi depending upon your arrival time at Delhi. The trains take around four
hours to reach Roorkee, while bus services may take little over 5 hours. Hiring a taxi is also
an option – contact numbers of taxi operators, based in Roorkee, have been provided at the
end*. .
Accommodation:

The hostel accommodation is allotted on the basis of AIR Rank in JEE-Advanced. The key of
the allotted room can be obtained from respective Bhawan Supervisor’s office between 8.00
am to 8.00 pm. on the day of registration While new students are entitled to stay in their
allotted accommodation on arrival, accompanying parents have to make their own stay
arrangements, as they are not allowed to stay with their wards in the hostel. For your
convenience, a list of hotels/lodges is provided at the end*.

The room in the Bhawan (Hostels are referred to as Bhawans in IIT Roorkee) contains a
cupboard, study table, tea-table, bed and electrical fittings like fan and tube light. You can
also use common washing machines provided by the Bhawan administration. You are
required to bring your own bedding, pillow, bucket, mug, lock, etc. (they can also be procured
locally at Roorkee). Please remember that electrical appliances like cooler, heater, iron
etc. are not allowed in the Bhawan rooms.

SBI ATMs & one Recycler (facility for cash deposits and withdrawals) inside the Campus. Self service kiosk
(transfer / balance enquiry / mobile recharge) , SWAYAM‐Pass Book Printer, Cheque Deposit Machine are also
availavle for service at 24 X 7 inside SBI e‐corner adjacent to the Branch. This Branch deals with foreign
