INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the study

Based on World Health Organization (received 2013 mar 14: Accepted 2013), bullying

as a threat or physical use of force, aiming at the individual, another person, a specific

community or group which can result in injury, death, physical damage, some development

disorders or deficiency. The concept of bullying at school is not new; however it has been

increasing in recent years. There is a essential increase in studies conducted and the number of

news on bullying at school in mass media. Bullying in schools is an issue that continues to

receive attention from researchers, educators, parents, and students. Contempt the common

assumption that bullying is a normal part of childhood and encompasses minor teasing and

harassment, researchers more and more find that bullying is a problem that can be detrimental to

students' well-being .

The study focuses on those division of students being reported as a victims of direct

and indirect bullying and not just only on the dominance of bullying. Different group of students

may be affected by different types of bullying. This can affect students behaviour in different

ways. This conducted study allow the readers to differentiate who suffers from either

directly(physically) or indirectly(socially) bullied, and also to determine who were bullied

physically and socially. Characteristic of students affected by these behaviour will be included to

the analysis. The study extent on the behaviour of the victims in response to being bullied such

as physical fights, fear, avoidance, carrying of weapons, isolation and the such are explored.

B. Objective of the Study


This study aims to determine the causes and effects of bullying among students of Alicia

National High School. Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

Why does a person bully others?

What are the impacts of bullying to those people involved after bullying?

What are the characteristics of a person why they became a possible victim of bullying?

C. Scope and Limitations

The study will focused its scope on the investigation of the figure of bullying behavior,

its victims and the types of bullying among junior and senior high students as a sample of school

children in Alicia National High School.

D. Significance of the Study

This case study will be beneficial to the following:

Students-for them to become open minded about their action and its consequences. This

research will help them to be encourage to change the way they behave towards other people.

Parents-it will give them a hint about their child’s attitude. This will allow them to have

an idea on how to avoid their children on engaging in bullying.

School Personnel- for them to improve their teaching materials and motivational

techniques to be more sensitive about this case.

Institution- this study will serve as a helping tool on constructing methods and strategies

on how to reduce the effect and causes of bullying.


Future Researchers- will serve as their basis and comparison about their future study.

F. Definition of Terms

For better understanding of the study, the following terms were defined operationally:

Bullying- is an aggressive behaviour on which they hurt a person physically, mentally

and emotionally.

Bully-a person who expose someone to negative actions repeatedly.

Bully victim- a person who suffered physical or emotional abuse by the bully itself.
