1. Total numbers of questions to be set are nine (11) as per the above for mat.
2. There will be FIVE questions in each of the Sections A and B. Each
question will be of fi ve (05) mar ks. However, a question may be se gregated
into subparts.
3. Section C is compulsory and contains ten (10) sub -parts each of two (2)
mar ks.
4. The maxi mum li mit on numerical problems to be set in the paper is 35%
while mini mum li mit i s 20%.
5. The paper setter shall provide detailed mar ki ng instru ctions and solutions to
numerical problems f or evaluation purpose in the separate white envelopes
provided for solutions.
6. The paper setters should seal the internal & external envelope properly with
signatures & cello tape at proper place.
7. Log tables, ch arts, graphs, Desi gn data t ables etc. should be specified,
whenever needed.
8. Use of Scientific calculator should be clearl y specified.

This course is designed to develop the skills among the students of engineering to solve
mathematical and scientific problems of engineering using Numerical Methods. The one of the
objectives is to make student comfortable in finding the numerical solution of complicated
algebraic and transcendental equations and to find approximate solution of a system of linear and
non-linear equations. Students shall be able to handle various numerical techniques to solve
numerical differentiation and integration. At the end of the syllabus, students will learn how to
obtain approximate solution of initial and boundary value problems using various techniques of
numerical methods.

Round-Off error; Absolute and Relative errors; Bisection method; Iteration
method: Conditions for the convergence of the Iteration method, Acceleration

a) The paper has been introduced from the session 2013-14.
b) The paper will be taught in the Second year/fourth Semester of all the U.G. Courses

Course Objectives: Antenna are essential component of all radi o equipment and

various combinational circuits. The student should also be able to describe operation,

Course Objective: The aim of this subject is to familiarize the students with the electronic wave
shaping circuits. The knowledge enhanced through understanding of filters, clippers, clampers,
multivibrators etc. The students will be able to demonstrate the use of transistor and diode as switch
and their applications. The knowledge of various digital switching circuits will help students to all
fields of electronics engineering activities.

Linear Wave Shaping : Low pass & high pass circuits & t heir response to
different input waveforms viz. step, pulse, ramp, exponential etc. Low pass

level clipping.

Course Objective: The study of electrical circuits takes off from principles of AC and DC
theory and introduces the student to parameters and characteristics of various networks. The
aim of the subject to understand the different types of circuits and their analysis based on
network theorems and to determine the current, voltage and power in the circuit. The students
will be able to analyze two port networks, stability of a circuit and to find time response of
the circuit. The circuits are designed using Foster and Cauer forms. The knowledge of

Course Objectives: The aim of this subject is to develop analytical capability of students, by
which they would be able to handle real time signal processing related problems and projects.
The understanding of various transforms will help the students to analyze the problems in
both time and frequency domain.

Course Objective: This course is intended to understand all t ypes of analog
modulation & demodulation techniques such as AM, FM, PM, DSB -SC, SSB, VSB.
Recogni ze the i mport ance of pre -emphasis and de -emphasis. Underst and the need
for diode detector, AGC, Frequency Di vision Multiplexing. Understand Modulation
& demodulation techni ques PAM, PPM, PWM &Noise Figure in AM & FM recei ver
systems. Understand Function of various stages of AM, FM transmitters &
Characteristics of AM & FM recei vers.

Section-A
Amplitude Modulation (AM): Introduction. Basic elements of
communications. Noise. Modulation and frequency translation. Need for
modulation. Expression for AM, modulation index for AM, amplitude
waveform and bandwidth of am plitude modulated signal, power distribution
in amplitude modulated signal. Double sideband suppressed carrier (DSB -
SC), single sideband (SSB), and vestigial sideband (VSB) AMs. Frequency
division multiplexing (FDM).
AM Modulators: Introduction. Circuit di agrams and operational principles
of square law modulator, switching modulator, balanced modulator, ring
modulator. Block diagram explanations of filtering method and phasing
method for generation of SSB.
AM Demodulators: Introduction. Circuit diagrams and explanations of
envelope detector and square law detector.

Angle Modulation: Introduction to Phase modulation (PM) and frequency


modulation (FM). Relationship between PM and FM. Phase and frequency
deviation. Power distribution in angle modulated signal. Spectral
characteristics of angle modulated signals. Effect of noise on angle
modulation, role of limiter, pre -emphasis and de -emphasis in FM.
Comparison of FM with AM in communication systems.
FM Modulators: Introduction. Block diagram explanations of di rect method
and indirect method (Armstrong system) of FM. Frequency multiplication
circuit, its explanation and application in FM.

FM Demodulators: Introduction. Circuit diagrams and explanations of slope


detector, balanced slope detector, quadr ature detector. Block diagram
explanation of phase locked loop demodulator.
Pulse Modulation: Introduction. Sampling theorem and its applications.
Pulse amplitude modulation(PAM). Natural sampling (Gating) and
instantaneous sampling (flat -top PAM). Bandwid th of PAM. Quantization,
companders, pulse code modulation (PCM).
AM Transmitters and Receivers: Introduction. Block diagram explanations
of AM radio transmitter using modulation at high carrier power level and AM
radio transmitter low carrier power level. Working principles and block
diagram explanations of superheterodyne receiver, Specifications of receiver,
sensitivit y, selectivity, fidelit y, signal to noise ratio, image rejection and
double spotting, Concept of automatic gain control(AGC).

FM Transmitters and Receivers: Introduction. Block diagram explanations


of Armstrong t ype phase modulated FM transmitter and FM stereo
transmitter. Block diagram explanations of FM stereo receiver &
superheterodyne FM radio receiver.

Course Objective: This lab is intended for the undergraduate students of


Electronics & Communication Engg. & Computer Science Engg. The main
objective of this lab is design, implementation, and debugging of digital
logic circuits, use of computer -aided design tools for schematic capture and
simulation and implementation of complex circuits using programmable logic
devices (PLDs). The students will become familiar with specifications and
implementation of digi tal systems using hardware description language
VHDL. The primary CAD software used in the lab and in homework
assignments will be XILINX ISE software. The students will be assigned a
number of hardware and simulation assignments and a series of digital
s ystem design projects of increasing complexit y and difficult y. After the
completion of the lab students will be able to anal yze and design digital
s ystems using CAD tools and implement them on Spartan 3 Starter Kit.

Course Objective: DSP makes use of mathematical methods in order to handle and analyze the
signals. The use of such mathematical methods allows extracting information and even modifying the
signal, in order to use it as we desire. DSP so widespread today and applied in everything around us.

At the end of course, students may able to apply different operations of DSP such as filtering, noise
cancelling, enhancing, distorting, smoothing in many application e.g. audio and speech processing,
sonar, radar and other sensor array processing, spectral, statistical signal processing, digital image
processing, signal processing for telecommunications, control systems, biomedical engineering,
seismology, among others.

Z-Transform: Introduction to signals and systems, Z -transform pair,


properties of region of convergence (ROC) for the Z -transform, properties of
Z-transform, anal ysis and characterization of LTI systems using Z -
transforms. S ystem functions for interconnection of L TI systems. Block
diagram representation for causal LTI systems.

Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT): Frequency domain sampling and


reconstruction of discrete time signals, DFT, inverse DFT (IDFT), DFT as a
linear transformation, relationship of the DFT to o ther transforms, properties
of DFT, use of DFT in linear filtering, filtering of long sequences, frequency
anal ysis of signals, using DFT.
FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM ALGOR ITHMS: Direct computation of DFT,
divide and conquer approach to computation of the DFT, radix-2 FFT
algorithms, use of FFT algorithm for efficient computation of the DFT of two
real sequences, and of the DFT of a 2N point real sequence.

Digital Filter Structures: Introduction, structures for FIR systems: Direct


form, cascade form and lattice structure, structures for IIR systems: Direct
form, cascade form, parallel form and lattice structures. Fixed point
representation of numbers, errors resulting from rounding and truncation.

Design Of Digital Filters: General considerations, c ausalit y and its


implications, characteristics of practical frequency selective filters, design of
s ymmetric linear phase FIR filters using rectangular, Kaiser and Hamming
window. Design of digital IIR filters using impulse invariance transformation

Course Objective: The objective of this course is to study those aspects of digital communication
systems that are unique to those systems.Focus will be on the fundamental system aspects of modern
digital communication. Digital communication is a field in which theoretical ideas have had an
unusually powerful impact on system design and practice. After successfully completing the course
students will be able to analyze the performance of a baseband and pass band digital communication
system in terms of error rate and spectral efficiency. Perform the time and frequency domain analysis
of the signals in a digital communication system.

Source Coding: Introduction, concept of amount of information, entropy and


information rate. Shannon`s theorem, channel capacit y, capacit y of a
Gaussian channel, BW -S/N trade off, sampling, quantization, quantization
error, quantization noise, companding, P CM, delta modulation, adaptive delta
modulation, Huffman Source Coding algorithm and Lempel -Ziv Source-
Coding algorithm.

Line Coding Schemes: Introduction, properties, general methods for


derivation of power spectral densit y of a broad class of line codi ng scheme:
ON-OFF signaling, polar signaling, bipolar & split phase (or manchester)
signaling and comparison among them. Pulse shaping: Nyquist' first and
second criterions for zero IS I, introduction to equalizer and eye diagram.
Derivation of error proba bilit y for polar signaling in AWGN.

Modulation Schemes: Introduction, generation, reception, spectrum, and


geometrical representation of BASK, BFSK, BPSK, binary differential phase

Objective: The objective of this course is to understand analysis of waveguides and gain complete

Course Objective: This course will cover various systems of the human

Project Semester spans over a period of One Semester.

The students shall undertake project (s) in Industry / R&D or service


organizations under the joint supervision of a facult y member and an
executive from the organization. The emphasis of the work undertaken is on
problem identification and its techno -economic solution for the benefit of the
host industry.

The project must normall y include identification of problem, data collection,


anal ysis and generating solutions with cost and benefits and
recommendations for their implementation. If a single project is not
available in the industry, more than one projects might be undertaken.

The evaluation of the project semester should be carried out on a c ontinuous


basis and must include the evaluation by facult y coordinator during his
visit(s) to the concerned industries, evaluation by facult y coordinator
towards the completion of the semester and the final evaluation in the
Institute by a committee of fac ult y members.
