 Article V: General Rules
 The interns shall be required to have a total of forty
(40) hours per week of duty to complete a total of
1,080 hours in 27 weeks.
 Article VI: Duties and Responsibilities
There shall be one (1) clinical instructor/interns
coordinator/clinical coordinator for every 25
students/interns (1 CI : 25 interns)
- Acts as liaison officer between the Higher
Education Institution (HEI) and the accredited
affiliating hospital–based or free–standing
clinical laboratory
- Coordinates with the training officer and/or the
chief medical technologist in the proper
implementation of the internship training
program of both the HEI and the accredited
training clinical laboratory in terms of:
- Monitoring attendance, behavior and
performance of interns and prepares monthly
reports
 Article VII: Duties and Responsibilities of Interns
 Section 1: Proper Decorum
The interns shall:
a. Behave as professional at all times
b. Treat the patients with compassion
c. Avoid undue familiarity and intimacy
d. Treat results with utmost confidentiality
e. Work harmoniously with fellow interns and
other personnel of the institution
f. Follow the provision in the code of ethics of a
medical technologist
 Section 2: Attendance and Punctuality
- Adhere strictly to the policies of the institution
and training center on absences and tardiness
 Section 3: Laboratory breakages
- The intern shall be solely responsible for the
payment, replacement or repair of laboratory
equipment and supplies incurred by them
 Section 4: Uniform
- The intern shall wear the complete uniform
prescribed by the school.
 Article VIII: Offenses and Sanctions
 Section 1: Absences
- For every excused absence, eight (8) hours make
up
- For every unexcused absence, twenty–four (24)
hours make–up
- For every accumulated tardiness of sixty
minutes, 8 hours make–up
- For accumulated absences exceeding twenty
percent (20%) of the total number of internship
hours per hospital rotation, repeat internship.
- For unauthorized out–of–post, eight (8) hours
make–up
 Article IX: Responsibilities of the accredited medical
technology training laboratories
 Section 1: Responsibilities of the Institution
 The institution shall meet the following requirements before
applying for affiliation to any clinical laboratory:
- CHED approval
- Compliance with the provisions of R.A 5527
- Provide a CI
 Section 2: Responsibilities of the Medical Technology
Training Laboratories
- duly accredited and licensed clinical laboratory as
specified by the law on clinical laboratories, R.A.

- adequate number of registered medical
technologists for each of the section of clinical
laboratory
- provide adequate supervision
- be responsible for the orientation of interns
- inform school of violations and misconduct
 Article VII: Duties and Responsibilities of Interns
 Section 2: Attendance
a. Duty
- Out of post inside the laboratory premises = 2 hours
- Out of post outside the laboratory = 3 days
b. Tardiness
- 3 consecutive tardiness = 1 day unexcused absence
- 60 minutes late = 1 day makeup class
- Habitual = conference with CI
c. Absences
- Excused absence – 1 day makeup
- Unexcused absence – 2 days makeup
- For accumulated absences 20 percent of the total
number of internship hours
Per section: repeat section rotation
Per hospital: repeat internship

To evaluate the performance of the interns, the ff shall be applied: d. No makeup duty: Official pull out (give excuse letter 3
days prior to pull out from the school)
 Examinations e. Not excused: attend / follow up requirements
