INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REPORT

ON
QR CODE BASED SMART LOGISTIC SYSTEM FOR LD
SLAG DISPATCH
PERIOD OF TRAINING: 28th May ’19 to 9th July ’19
AKNOWLEDGEMENT

No creation in this world is a solo effort. Neither in our industrial

training. From the person who taught us to the person who supported us. In
particular I would like to thank my faculties; you that is, have made me what I
am. My classmates and my friends who helped me a lot. I have learnt a lot of
valuable, social and educational things during the industrial training. I realize
that learning theoretical is never the same when it comes to practice. There are a
lot more to master than just learning from book. I also learned it is very
important to know how to work as part of the team especially when you are
working in a big organization. The motive of this industrial training was just to
refresh students with studies other than regular college syllabus.
I especially want to thank my parents who got me admitted into this
beautiful college and would like to thank my beloved teachers and course
counsellor for designing such a beautiful and innovative course of study to help
us achieve our goals.

PROJECT HANDELED

Title:-QR Code Based Smart Logistic System for LD Slag

Dispatch.
Introduction about the project
QR code is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode. In practice,
QR codes often contain data for a locator, identifier, or tracker that
points to a website or application. A QR code consists of black squares
arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by
an imaging device such as a camera. Incorporating a QR code based
smart logistics system (specially for LD slag dispatch) in a industry like
Tata Steel Limited would be a great move. Currently paperwork is in
practice for the logistics being used. Implementation of QR code would
make it a smart logistics system.
Initially a challan no. will be issued to all the vehicles entering the Tata
Steel premises by taking down the required details. The output generated
will be QR code having all the details of that particular vehicle in that.
The vehicle containing QR code will be directed towards the IBMD
department, here its tare weight will be recorded on the weighbridge and
stored in the vehicle database. IBMD will assign the work order/sales
order to all the vehicles as per its priority. After loading of LD slag its
gross weight will be recorded on weighbridge and stored in the vehicle
database. Thus we can compute the net weight from the above two
records. On reaching to destination (were LD slag needs to be delivered)
an OTP would be sent on the customer’s device requesting to validate
the OTP in order to maintain authenticity.

1.1Purpose

The purpose behind developing QR Code Based Smart Logistics

System for LD Slag Dispatch is to initiate paperless movement of
vehicles inside /outside Tata Steel premises. As in currently a lot of
paperwork are done to seek permissions for vehicles entry/exit
movement that creates a lot of congestion at all entry/exit gates as
well as at weighbridge. So our purpose is to reduce this congestion
of vehicles and increase its utilization time.
1.2Scope
The project encompasses several scopes as listed below:
 Paperless work for vehicles at entry/exit gates and also
movement inside Tata steel premises.
 Instant retrieval of information for vehicles having QR code
can be done.
 QR code can be easily scanned by the employee/user in order
to update and retrieve information.
 The waiting time for vehicles having QR code in queue would
be minimal. Thus leading to carry more no. of trips in a day,
this would add more profit to the organisation.
 Maintenance of data/records in the relational database will be
easy and can be efficiently used to increase the supply of LD
slag.

Methodology:-
How does QR code Based smart logistic system for LD Slag
Dispatch works ?
 A desktop application is developed that contains two different
sections.
 Those sections are:
• Customer: The person who orders for LD slags.
• IBMD: Department in Tata Steel that fulfills the demand of
customer.
 There is also a weighbridge section that contains the net, tare and
gross weight of the LD slag of the ordered customer with the
challan number that is generated by IBMD.
 With all the required data QR code is generated by the IBMD for
LD slag dispatch within or outside the Tata Steel premises.

Term Definition
QR code It stands for Quick Response Code. It
often contain data for a locator,
identifier, or tracker that points to a
website or application.
IBMD It stands for Industrial By-Products
Management Division. It deals with
all by-products generated in the
steelmaking value chain from raw
materials to finished goods stage.
Tare weight It is the weight of an empty vehicle.
Gross weight It is the weight of a loaded vehicle.
Net weight It is the weight of a good without its
container. Gross weight less tare
weight equals net weight.
OTP A one-time password, also known as
one-time pin or dynamic password,
is a password that is valid for only
one login session.
Work order It is usually a task or job for a
customer that can be scheduled to
someone.
Sales order The sales order is an order issued by
a business or sole trader to a
customer.
LEARNING AFTER TRAINING

Industrial training provides an opportunity to experience real work situation and

accelerate learning by practically experiencing all sorts of things which students
have learnt in the class room. Industrial training equips students with necessary
skills sets, experiences and knowledge.
The main objective of Industrial Training is to expose the students to actual
working environment and enhance their knowledge and skill from what they
have learned in the college. Another purpose of this program is to instill the
good qualities of integrity, responsibility and self confidence.
Industrial training is very important. It gives an insight into the organization
and its approaches to deal with a problem. It is aimed at imparting the
required skill set, information to improve the candidates' performance or to
encourage him/her to meet their career goals.
