Ms Stuti wants to start a retail business of fashionable items. But she is hesitating as she is aware of the risks
which are inherent in every business. She approaches her friend, Ms. Pankhu, who is the owner of the retail
shop. Ms. Pankhu advises her to opt for business and suggests certain methods to minimise risks.
Q.1. Broadly business risk may be of two types. In the instant case, under which type does the business of

CASE STUDY – 2
Abdul is the sole owner of a shoe manufacturing factory. He took a loan of Rs. 20, 00,000 from Khan
Finance Company for the expansion of his business. Because of continuous losses, however, he was not able
to repay the loan on time. Assets of the business were not enough for repaying liabilities in full. As a result,
the finance company asked him to repay their loan. He refused to do so on the ground that the loan was
taken by his business and not by him for his personal use. The company filed a case against him. The court
gave decision in favour of the company on the ground that Abdul was operating as the sole proprietor and a
sole proprietor did not have a separate entity distinct from his own. The court further stated that Abdul had
unlimited liability and held him liable to repay the loan even by selling his personal property if need be.

2011. However, the date mentioned on the Certificate was 8th March. The company had entered into a
Contract of buying land from X Ltd. on 10th March, 2011. Now, X Ltd. is not interested in selling land as the
value of the land has appreciated. It refused to honour the contract on the pretext of company not being in
existence on 10th March, 2011 as the Registrar of Companies had issued the Certificate of Incorporation on
12th March, 2011.

Post and Telegraph department is a major part of the Ministry of Communication. It is organised, financed

Govt. Treasury and its revenues are paid into the treasury. Being under the control of Govt., it is subject to
the same budget, accounting and audit controls as applicable to government departments. As far as the
recruitment, appointment and conditions of services of its permanent staff are concerned, it is just like those
of civil servants.

Verma brothers inherited some ancestral property. They decided to form a Hindu Undivided Family
consisting of four male members .Mr. Raghu Verma was the eldest brother so he became Karta. The
business took a loan of ₹ 20 lakh from Canara bank, which was to be returned within 5 years. Due to poor
financial position of the business, they were unable to repay the loan. The brothers sold the ancestral
property for ₹ 10 lakh and paid the amount to Canara Bank. The bank filed a case for recovery of balance
amount. Mr. Raghu Verma pleaded in the court that the loan was taken for the purpose of business; so all
members of business are liable to repay. The court said that all members are responsible only to the extent of
their share in business and the business property is already sold, but you being Karta will have to repay
whole amount even by selling your personal property.

Preeti Wadhwa, Nitish Malik, Rahul Saini and Mohit Khatri are four partners in a firm . The name of the
firm is ‘Four Friends Pustak Bhandar’. The latest books of all the subjects remain available at this Pustak
Bhandar. All the four partners decided that books equal to the amount of 20% of the total profit of the firm
would be distributed among the poor children every year. The society welcomed this decision of theirs very
much. It had a very positive effect on the goodwill of the firm. Mohit Khatri was the youngest of all the
partners of the firm. He is now 16 years of age. The financial position of Rahul Saini was not good. He had
joined the firm on the condition that he would be a partner only in profits of the firm. Similarly, Nitish Malik
also continues to be a partner on a condition. He joined the firm with the condition that his name would not
be made public. All the four partners were committed to make their business reach the topmost level of
success. All of them took part in all the activities of the firm, but the Administrative activity of the firm was
taken care of by Preeti Wadhwa and Nitish Malik only.

CASE STUDY – 9

Some people used to go for a walk in the morning to Delhi’s ‘Golden Garden’. After the walk, they would
often sit together and discuss subjects like Politics, Demonetisation, Elections, Market prices of different
goods, etc. There were about fifty persons in this group. One day instead of other subjects, their focus of
discussion was Market prices of different goods. During the discussion, the emphasis was laid on the point
that goods become very costly by the time they reach the ultimate consumers after getting transported from
the producers. Consequently, everyone’s budget is going wrong. To get rid of this problem, some people
suggested that they should join together to form a Society. The Society would sell the goods to all the
members as per their requirement after buying them in a large quantity directly from the producers. Doing so
would enable them to get rid of profit being earned by middlemen. This suggestion was appreciated by one
and all. All of them were asked to become members of the Society and encourage other people too, to
become members. In no time 190 members assembled and the Society was formed. The idea of forming a
Society immediately proved to be successful. All the members heaved a sigh of relief. Now their budget
became balanced. A special characteristic of this society was that apart from its members, it also sold goods
to the other people of society at cheaper rates. All of them were very happy with the formation of the
Society.

10. SUBJECT: FINE ART (PAINTING)

 Make two half imperial size ‘still life’ drawings using three or more objects. Medium -one to be in
pencil shading, the second to be coloured (any media). While drawing focus to be on composition
/placement, effective use of colour /media and overall appeal /impression.

 Make ten speed drawing sketches of people in action around you on A4 size cartridge paper.

 Complete pending class work if any. ( two envelope styles taught in class ,finished with flowers and
decorations on cover)

 Create a pen stand/table organiser with the use of waste (toothpaste and soap boxes, chips and cookie
