A. Daily Prayer (April leads the prayer)
Routine Let’s stand and start our day with a
prayer. April, kindly lead us a
prayer.

Good Morning/ afternoon class. Good morning/ afternoon sir

Customary Before you take your seats, please
Greeting
make sure there are no pieces of
paper scattered around you and
arrange your chairs.
Checking of Class secretary kindly check the Yes sir.
Attendance attendance.

B. Reviewing When you were in Grade 8 class, you have

previous already discussed the different Phases of matter
lesson or do you still remember them? Can you
presenting enumerate them Alysa? Sir they are the Solid, liquid, gas and
the new plasma.
lesson Very good! Now let us review further using FAST
TALK. I will call one person to answer all the
questions as fast as you can using only YES OR
NO/ TRUE OR FALSE. After which we will check if
your answers are correct. Who would like to
volunteer? Yes Amery, very good! I would like to volunteer sir!
Shall we start?

1. T/F All phase changes requires energy TRUE

to be added or taken away.
2. T/F All changes in the state of matter TRUE
requires energy.
3. T/F Particles speed up and spread out TRUE
when heated.
4. T/F Gas particles has the most energy TRUE
5. T/F Temperature is defined as average TRUE
kinetic energy
6. T/F Gas is the state of matter with a FALSE
definite shape and volume
7. T/F Liquid is the state of matter with an TRUE
Indefinite shape and definite volume
8. T/F gases has the weakest TRUE
intermolecular forces
9. T/F Substances are made up of particles TRUE
(atoms and molecules)
10. T/F These particles are in random TRUE
motion.
Wow! That was fast! Thank you Amery! Now Yes sir!
class, do you think Amery got all the correct
answers?
That’s right! May we all clap for Amery!

C. Establishing Today class we will be discussing a new lesson (students will read the objectives flashed
a purpose focusing on Gases and the Kinetic Molecular on the screen)
for the Theory. Here are our objectives for today,
lesson everybody read:

D. Presenting I have here 2 graduated cylinders of the same

examples/ size filled with water of the same amount, A is
instances of filled with hot water and B with ice water. What
the new do you think will happen when I place food
lesson coloring on each of the set-up’s? I want you to
write your predictions down so let us see later
whether you are correct. I need two volunteers
to simultaneously drop the food color on our
set-up. Thank You Gian and Aj. (Students will volunteer)
I will count to three then you drop the food (student volunteers will drop food colors
color on the set-up. 1-2-3! on the set up while the class is observing)
E. Discussing What can you observe from the movement of Sir, the food color moves slowly sir.

concepts and That’s correct.
practicing What about the movement of the food color on Sir, the food color moves faster in the hot
new skills #1 the hot water? Oliver? Very Good Oliver! water than in the cold water sir.

Why do you think so class? Yes Carla? Warm water has more energy than cold
water, which means that molecules in
warm water move faster than molecules in
cold water. The food coloring you add to
the water is pushed around by the water
molecules. Since the molecules in warm
water move around faster, the food
Very good Carla! May we clap for Carla class! coloring spreads out quicker in the warm
You have to remember class that Water is made water than in the cold water.
of molecules. Molecules in a liquid have enough
energy to move around and pass each other.
This is why water can flow and take the shape of
the glass you pour it into. The molecules in
solids, like ice, don’t have enough energy to
move around very much so the solid keeps its
shape. Molecules in a gas have lots of energy
and spread out even more than molecules in a
liquid.
F. Discussing Now class let us have an Activity involving a
new syringe. I would like to group you into 5 groups.
concepts and Please choose your leader, secretary and
practicing Reporter, this way you will have a more
new skills #2 organized way of working.
I have prepared cards which already contains
your names and the groups you belong to.
Listen very well for your name and what group (Students will listen for their names being
you belong to. called, move to their work area and choose
(teacher will read out the names from the cards) their leader, secretary and reporter.)
Please move silently and go to your pre assigned
work area.

materials) teacher.
Class read the instructions and follow each one The students will perform the activity.
carefully. You are given 5 minutes for this
activity. (While the students perform the
activity the teacher will go around to ensure
everyone is following the procedures and
everyone is participating.)
G. Developing Time’s up class. Let us now listen to the Each group reporter will present their
mastery presentation of the reporters. Please do make work.

of the groups who presented?
What properties of gases are reflected from our Sir Volume and pressure is shown in the
activity? Yes Camila activity.
That’s correct! Very good Camila.
And based from our activity, what is the
relationship between Volume and Pressure? Volume is inversely proportional to
Dennis. pressure sir because as the Volume
Very good Dennis! increases the pressure decreases.
H. Finding Below your activity sheets is a model and a Sir, at the beginning of our lesson we just

daily living That is a very good explanation Ian! Thank you! spread away from the source.
That is correct. We call this phenomena
Diffusion where there is a molecular movement
from a higher concentration to a lower
concentration. While a birthday balloon left for
hours or days slowly deflating over time is
EFFUSION since it is the escape of gases at a
small opening.
Class where else do we see applications of gas Sir, air fills into the tire of vehicles and
in our daily lives? exerts pressure!

ACTIVITY KINETIC MOLECULAR THEORY

DEMONSTRATION: Diffusion and the Kinetic Molecular Theory:

1. What do you predict what will happen to a drop of food coloring that is added to each graduated
cylinder- one hot, one cold?

2. What is happening in each graduated cylinder at the macroscopic (visual level?)

3. What is happening in each graduated cylinder at the particle level? MODEL THIS.

4. What do you think the graduated cylinders will look like by the end of the class? Explain why this
happens.

LEMON/ PERFUME MODEL:

If I cut open a lemon/ spray a perfume, draw a model to show what happens that allows you to smell the lemon/
perfume across the room.
ACTIVITY KINETIC MOLECULAR THEORY
Syringe Activity:
1. Pull the plunger of a syringe out as far as it will go without coming out.
2. Put your finger on the end of the syringe (where a needle would go).
3. Push the plunger down.
4. What happens? Draw a picture if needed.

5. Explain why this happens. Use a picture to help explain if needed.

LEMON/ PERFUME MODEL:

If I cut open a lemon/ spray a perfume, draw a model to show what happens that allows you to smell the lemon/
perfume across the room.

Has your model changed at all? If so what does your model now show that your previous model did not?
