a. differentiate saturated from unsaturated solution;
b. determine how much solid solute completely dissolves in a given volume water; and
c. described the appearance of saturated solutions.

o What happened to the appearance of the solution when you first added ½
teaspoon of salt in 20 ml of water.
o How many teaspoons of salt have you added until the salt no longer
dissolves?
o How many teaspoons of sugar dissolved completely in 20 mL of water?
o Compare and contrast saturated and unsaturated solutions.
o How will you described the appearance of a saturated and unsaturated
solutions.
o What will be the effect of increasing temperature in the solubility of a

e. Synthesis
- Saturated solutions contains the maximum amount of solute dissolved by a given
amount of solvent, while unsaturated solution contains less solute than the
maximum amount it can dissolve at a given temperature. Solubility changes with
temperature. The presence of an excess solid which can no longer dissolve is
 evidence that the solution is saturated. Some substances become more soluble with
an increasing temperature. This is the reason why some solutions become
supersaturated. Supersaturated solution contains more dissolved solute than a
saturated solution given the same temperature.
