Core Subject Description: This course uses insights from Anthropology, Political Science,
and Sociology to develop students’ awareness of cultural, social and political dynamics, and
sensitivity to cultural diversity; provide them with an understanding of how culture, human
agency, society and politics work; and engage them in the examination of the country’s
current human development goals. At the end of the course, students should acquire ideas
about human cultures, human agency, society and politics; recognize cultural relativism and
social inclusiveness to overcome prejudices; and develop social and cultural competence to
guide their interactions with groups, communities, networks, and institutions.
Content Standard: How individuals learn culture and become competent members of
society.
Learning Competencies: Identifies the social goals and the socially acceptable means of

I. Objectives:
Students should be able to:
1. Discuss the social goals and socially acceptable means through different forms of
deviance,
2. Perform differentiated activity that will show different forms of deviance, its description,
and example (Strain Theory)
(This activity manages classroom structure to engage learners, individually or in
groups, in meaningful exploration, discovery and hands-on activities within a
range of physical learning environment; and uses differentiated, developmentally
appropriate learning experiences to address learners’ gender, needs, strengths,
interests and experiences).
3. Appreciate the value of each individual. (those with disabilities and those from
underprivileged sectors of society and their contributions to society)

English – integrating English concepts to social studies

disabilities (PWD’s), marginalized people, and talented ones. Be stress free!
Social Studies and Media Information Literacy – showing slides and video in
connection to the topic and shows example of deviance

III. Strategies
A. Daily Routine: Prayer and Cleaning the Classroom, and Checking Attendance
C. Motivation: The teacher will asks selected students on their dreams in life and the means
of achieving those dreams.
D. Lesson Proper:
Discussion: Merton was proposing a typology of deviance based upon two criteria: (1) a
person’s motivations or his adherence to cultural goals; (2) a person’s belief in how to attain
his goals. According to Merton, there are five types of deviance based upon these criteria:
Conformity
Innovation

Ritualism
Retreatism
Rebellion
2. Guide Questions:
1. Describe the type of deviance.
2. Give examples.
E. Application / Valuing: The teacher will ask students to generalize the topic.
“Always put ourselves in the shoes of others before judging other people especially the
person with disabilities. If we always remember this, perhaps we would turn out to be more
accepting of disability and less prejudiced against unprivileged people. Do not be too
stressed. Be guided with your goals and appreciate your means. Conform.”

2. Identify the type of deviance the 20 persons to be projected. (Oral Recitation)
IV. Assignment:
Read about Groups within society: Primary and Secondary. List down on a 1/2 crosswise of
paper.
