Detailed Lesson Plan in Social Studies

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. identify the different characteristics of culture;


b. state the importance of culture in their development as persons; and
c. make a slogan expressing their thoughts in saving their culture from extinction.

II. Subject matter:

Materials: Pictures, PowerPoint presentation, handouts, flashcards
References: Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics, page 27-30

groups. You will be given two topics each Group 1

now the things that you have learned from
your original group. I will give you 8
minutes to do the activity.

IV. Evaluation:

Identify the characteristics of culture being described.


1. Culture is not inherited biologically but it is learned socially by man in a society.
2. Culture is stored and passed on from one generation to the next, and new knowledge is
being added to what is existing.
3. All the cultural aspects are inter-connected with each other.
4. It is different from each other.
5. Culture is gradually built as it is useful to the society. Those information that no longer
useful to the society may gradually phased out.
6. No culture is ever in a permanent state.
7. Cultural behaviours allow people to fit into and adapt to their environment.
8. The members of the group learn to understand and apply certain ideas, values,
expectations, beliefs and traditions to the society.
9. Culture embodies the ideas and norms of a group.
10. All aspects of a culture are related to one another and to truly understand a culture, one
must learn about all of its parts, not only a few.
