UNDERSTANDING CULTURE, SOCIETY AND POLITICS

Learning Competencies

I. OJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Classify and identify the State and Non-State Institutions in the Society.
b. Differentiate the functions of State and Non-State Institutions.
c. Appraise the State and Non-State Institutions in relation to personal development and
societal progress.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: State and Non-State Institutions
Materials: Powerpoint Presentation,TV,Laptop & other instructions materials.
References: Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics

III. PROCEDURE
A. Routine Activity
a. Classroom Activity
 The teacher will let the students to clean and organize the classroom before he/she
enters.
b. Prayers
The teacher will call a student to lead them in a prayer.
c. Attendance
 The teacher will ask the classroom secretary to report the classroom attendance.
 She also reminds the class that those absentees must inform the teacher and present
excuse letter for valid reasons.
d. Review of the Past Lesson
 The teacher will ask the students about the lesson that they have discussed
yesterday.
 The teacher asks at least three questions by filling in the missing letter to come up
the correct word to measure if the students really understood the previous lesson.
Question 1: Members of this group have direct access and interaction with each other. Thus, emotional
bonds are formed.

B. MOTIVATION
Activity: “Make Me Colorful”
 The students were given an activity by the teacher.
Direction: Get the paper under your desk and color the empty paper, and post it on the board.

 The students noticed that after they have colored the empty papers, there were words revealed in
it.
 The teacher used candle to write the words on the empty paper. The teacher asks the students to
read the found words. The teacher informs the students that the found words will be expected to
encounter in the lesson.

C. LESSON PROPER
a. Presentation of the lesson
 The teacher will ask the students to analyze the following logos presented below to introduce the
new lesson.

b. Discussion
 The teacher will ask about what they have noticed after arranging the scrambled letters.
 The teacher presents the lesson “State and Non-State Institution”.
 The teacher divides the class into groups.
 The teacher let the group leaders to choose whether State Institutions or Non-State Institutions and
each group should have representative to report their presentation.

BRANCHES OF THE GOVERNMENT:

The Executive branch is comprised of the President and the Vice President who are chosen by direct
popular vote and fulfill a term of six years. The Constitution grants the President authority to appoint his
Cabinet. These departments form a large portion of the country’s bureaucracy.
The Legislative branch can make laws, alter, and reverse them through the power bestowed in the
Philippine Congress. This institution is divided into the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The Judicial branch maintains the power to resolve disputes concerning rights that are legally demandable
and enforceable. This branch decides whether there has been a serious abuse of judgment amounting to
lack or excess of authority on the part and instrumentality of the government. It is made up of a Supreme
Court and lower courts.

STATE INSTITUTIONS are established, run, operated, and funded by the government.
Examples of State Institution:
• Department of Education
• University of the Philippines
• Department of Interior Local Government
• House of Representative of the Philippines
• Sagisag ng Pangulo ng Pilipinas
 The students present their activity and explain the Branches of Government, Types of Authority,
and Forms of Redistribution of Products.
The group 1 explains very well all the given activities and they have identified what State
Institutions are.

D. VALUE INTEGRATION
Reflection
Situation:
There are two businessmen who try to invest. The woman thinks wisely and choose to invest in a
state institution which is Landbank. However, the man invests in Cooperative organization in their
community.
Express your ideas by reflecting from images presented below on what happened to these two businessmen
and what lesson you have learned from it.

 The teacher will ask some students about what they have realized after accomplishing several
given activities.

IV. GENERALIZATION
 The teacher will give an activity to sum up the lesson.

The given questions summarize the discussion of the lesson. It will help the students to recall & review
