LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 10

February 2020

I. OBJECTIVES
Illustrates mutually exclusive events. (M10SP-IIIi-1)
1. Define mutually and not mutually exclusive events
2. Determine mutually and not mutually exclusive events.
3. finds the probability of mutually and not mutually exclusive events.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Probability of Mutually Exclusive and Not Mutually Exclusive Events
B. Math 10: CG, TG, LM, and Test Item Bank
C. Laptop, TV, Cartolina , Meta strips (Flashcards )
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill: Addition of Similar Fractions
2. Review: Checking of assignments
3. Motivation: Present an illustration of Venn diagram that shows intersection and no
intersection of events.
4. Presentation of topics and objectives
B. Developmental Activities
1. Activity:
Divide the class into 6 groups. Each group will be given 1 problem to solve and choose 1
among the members to explain and rest of the members will prepare a short cheer that describe
their group as well as a support for their presenter.

1. A bowl contains 15 chips numbered 1to 15. If a chip is drawn randomly from the bawl. What
is the probability that it is :
a. 7 or even numbers
b. a number divisible by 2 or 3

2. Using the 15 names of barangay in our town (Poblacion, Libongao, Tagaytay, Montebello,
Rizal, Naghalin, Tugbong, Montealegre,Lonoy, Mahawan, Sto. Niño, Libertad, Natubgan,
Hiloctogan, Masarayao). What is the probability that it is :
a. 5 letters name or 7 letters name
b. end with n or 7 letters name

3. Miss Pepito wants to let her students make a model of the different planets. Zeus a student of
Miss Pepito picks one name randomly from the box containing the different names of planet.
What is the probability that it is:
a. earth or Jupiter
b. earth or top 5 planets near the sun

2. Analysis

Presentation and discussion of group activity. Group activity will be rated using the criteria:
I. Accuracy of the answer_____________________________ 50%
II. Visual Aid (Neatness and Font size of the letters)________ 20%
III. Presenter ( Clearness and loudness of voice)___________ 20%
IV. Cheers of the Group_______________________________10%
TOTAL_____________________________________________100%

Note: The teacher will give appreciation, comments, suggestion, and recommendation after
the last presenter.

3. Abstraction

How to find the probability of mutually exclusive and not mutually exclusive events?
MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE EVENTS- events that cannot occur at the same time
A B
P(Aor B)=P(A) +P(B)
NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE EVENTS- events in which there are outcomes that are common to A
and B which is the intersection of A and B.

A B
P(AorB)=P(A) + P(B) – P(A and B)
4.Application

Finds the probability of the problem below.(let the students analyse and solve the problem, then
ask for a volunteer to explain their answer)
Princess likes to wear colored shirts. She has 15 shirts in the closet. Five of these are
blue, four are in differents shades of red, and the rest are of different colors. What is the
probability that she will wear blue or a red shirt?
Determine whether the given event is mutually exclusive or not mutually exclusive. Explain your
answer.
1. turning left and turning right
2. a mother giving birth to a twin baby
3. turning right and scratching your head
4. tossing a coin
5. watching TV and eating snack
(Test Item Bank page 24 nos. 6-10
Note: Let the students demonstrate if possible.

IV. EVALUATION
Determine if the event is mutually exclusive or not mutually exclusive then find the probability
and illustrates the events using a Venn diagram. (1/2 C.W.)
1. Juan spun the spinner numbered 1 to 8. What is the probability that it is even number or
number less than 4? (Test Item Bank # 5 page 24)
2. Mario has 15 red chips, 12 blue chips and 24 white chips. What is the Probability that Mario
randomly selects a red or a white chip? ( LM. # 1 activity 6 page 337 )

V. ASSIGNMENT
Answer activity 6: # 2 and 4 Page 337 of L.M. (1/2 C.W.)
