Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

Objectives: at the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:

a. Explain how materials cycle in the ecosystem.

b. Appreciate the importance of the materials cycles in the ecosystem; and
c. Trace the flow of materials in an ecosystem.

Subject matter: oxygen, water, and nitrogen cycle

Reference: Science learners module 8

Materials: marker, Manila paper

Strategy: Collaboratrive, inductive

III. Procedure
Teachers activity Learners activity
a. Preliminaries
a. Prayer
b. Attendance
c. Review
Who can recall our topic last meeting? Sir
Yes___? Our topic last meeting was all about
food chain, food web and food
pyramid.
Very good.

What is food chain? Sir

Yes___? Food chain is the flow of energy
transferred from one organism to the
next.
Very good.
What is food web? Sir
Yes___? Food web is comprises of more than
two food chain.
Very good.
How about food pyramid? Sir
Yes___? Food pyramid is the total energy or
mass gained by an organism.
Very good.

b. Developmental activity
a. Motivation
This time class, we will have a game
entitled ‘break the code’. I will group
you into 4 groups. Each group will be
given a code to be arranged and forms
a word. The first group who finish first
will receive 10 points.
Am I clear class? Yes, sir

G1- 23 1 20 5 18 WATER
G2- 15 24 25 7 5 14 OXYGEN
G3- 14 9 20 18 15 7 5 14 NITROGEN
G4- 3 25 3 12 5 CYCLE

b. Unlocking of difficulties
Class for the clarification of the word
meaning here are the definition of
terms.
CARBON DIOXIDE- is a colorless
odorless gas at atmospheric
temperature and pressure
RESPIRATION- the movement of
oxygen outside environment to the cell
within tissues.
EVAPORATION-occurs on the surface
of a liquid as it changes into the
gaseous phase.
PRICIPITATION- is any product of the
condensation of atmospheric water
vapor that falls under gravity.
CONDENSATION- is the change of the
physical state of matter from gas
phase into liquid phase, and is the
reverse of vaporization.

c. lesson proper
a. activity
class this time we will have an
activity. With the same group all you
have to do is to answer the task given
and choose your representative to
present your output in front. I will give
you 5 minutes to do the task.
Am I clear class? Yes, sir

G1- oxygen cycle

G2- water cycle
G3- nitrogen cycle
G4- human activities that could affect
ecosystem

Times up. Post your output.

Let us start to group 1,2,3,4
Group 1 reporting……
Very good. Give 5 claps
Group 2 reporting……
Awesome. Give 5 claps
Group 3 reporting…….
Expectacular. Give 5 claps
Group 4 reporting……
Excellent. Give 5 claps
b. Analysis
What gas do plants produce that
animals use? Sir
Yes____? oxygen

Very good.

How about in animals? Sir

Yes____? Carbon dioxide
Very good.

What do you think will happen if there

is no oxygen and carbon dioxide cycle? sir
Yes____? There is a possibility that plants,
animals and even humans will die.
Very good.

c. Abstraction
What are the three cycles? Sir
Yes___? Oxygen, water and nitrogen cycle.

Very good.

What are the important processes in

water cycle? Sir
Yes____? evaporation, condensation and
precipitation
Very good.

How about in nitrogen cycle? sir

Yes____? Atmospheric nitrogen, nitrogen
fixation and denitrification.
Very good.

d. Application
Class, with the same group you are
going to illustrate and trace the flow of
cycling materials in the ecosystem.
Group 1 will draw oxygen cycle, group
2 will draw water cycle and group 3
and 4 will draw nitrogen cycle.
Am I clear class? Yes, sir
IV. Evaluation
In a ½ sheet of paper. Answer the
following question.
Direction: write T if the statement is
true and F if the statement is false.

____1.plants produced carbon dioxide.

____2. Animals produced oxygen.

____3. Water evaporates from the sun,

rivers and lakes.

____4. 78 percent of the gases in the

atmosphere is made up of nitrogen.

____5. All bacteria convert nitrogen to

ammonia.

V. assignments
In a ½ sheet of paper for 10 points.
