Scene 2 - The Party - INT. Rye information center (2D)

Shot 1
Ellie’s eyes blink open (from inside). She is looking at the outside of a door inside the Rye
tourist information center. [General noise, conversation, clinking of glasses and laughter is
heard from inside the room] Ellie pushes the door open.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
Mum has to be at this party tonight,
Time to make sure I’m good and polite

Ellie walks through the smoke and into the room.

FADE TO WHITE/SMOKE

Shot 2
Ellie is standing at the back of a very smokey room surrounded by people in suits and cocktail
dresses who are smoking, drinking and generally socialising. The smoke swirls above her head
and obscures the heads of the people, so that only the bottom of them is showing. The room is
very busy. [Clinking glasses, laughing, conversation and other party noises fill the room]. Ellie
walks forwards.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
This room is so busy and full of smoke,
With all these towering and fancy folk.
I am very small and they’re all so tall.
I hardly know a soul here at all.

Shot 3
Two chairs and a table are sat against a wall. Ellie’s back is to the camera and she approaches
the chairs.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
I came here with mum, she’s here somewhere,
For now I’ll take a seat on this comfy chair.

Ellie sits on the chair. The chair starts to get higher as the chair leg gets longer. The chair
eventually breaks through the ceiling, and out of the top of the building.

Scene 3 - Chair above the clouds - EXT. In the clouds (2D)

Shot 1
The chair is above the roof of the building and continues to get higher, move up through cloud
cover until it’s just Ellie and the clouds.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
While sat on the chair lonely and confused,
I passed time with colouring to keep me amused.
Surrounded by people but feeling alone,
I put pen to paper and made stories of my own.

Pugwash swings into frame, picks up Ellie and swings out of frame.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
Then came a man, through the thick smokey haze,
Who had magic in his hands and stories for days.

Scene 4 - All Aboard - EXT. Pirate Boat (2D)

Shot 1
Pugwash and Ellie swing into frame, and drop onto the boat. Ellie looks around.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
He had a world in his mind of pirates at sea.
He opened up a world of adventure to me.
The party continues and we chatted more,
Though the conversation and laughter continued to roar.

There is a loud chuckle and the sails of the boat fills with the laughter, pushing the boat off
screen.
Scene 5 - The Storm - EXT. Pirate boat (2D)

Shot 1
The boat comes back into shot from the left, and the waves begin to increase. A champagne
cork pops and shoots across the screen. [POP]. The waves begin to get bigger and Shrimp
begin to jump in and out of the sea past the boat.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
His stories took me away from the smoke of cigars,
Of posh, fancy foods and huge champagne bars.

Volouvants float past the boat, followed by a mouse, and then hands holding lit cigars emerge
from the sea. Error messages with wings begin to flock around the boat, threatening the boat.
Wings appear on the sides of the ship and it flies off.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
All the noise and the chaos, it melted away,
I had a whole world of magic in which to play.

Scene 6 - The Cave - INT. Cave (2D)

Shot 1
The boat flies in through the entrance of the Cave and settles down on a Rock to hide from the

Shot 2
Close up of Ellie and Pugwash’s faces in the dark. All that can be seen is their eyes.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
Surrounded by silence, save a distant song on the breeze,
I found myself absorbed in the tales of the seas.
As my mind grew quieter and all grew still,
John Ryan yet had some advice to instil.
Sound goes quiet and Ellie and Pugwash look at each other and nod.

Shot 3
The boat flies out of the cave.

Scene 7 - The Land of colouring - EXT. Boat flying over hills and trees
(2D)

Shot 1
The boat is flying over a countryside scene made entirely of pencil shavings, colouring book
pages and other elements related to children’s art.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
He told me to follow my dreams and my heart,
And that it would someday be clear where to start.
He looked at my colouring and everything arty,
And encouraged me to continue long after the party.

The winged error messages begin to appear and behave threateningly again.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
He told me to live life through painting and drawing,
I realised without it things would really be boring.

Ellie sees a box with a photoshop icon on it, picks it up and shakes it. She then uses the
photoshop icons to begin fighting the error messages.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
Creativity could help me through good and bad things,
Inspire me and give me my own magical wings,
A way to deal with and beat all I’d face
And my own special world to call my own space.

With all the error messages gone, the ship flies off towards a cottage nestled in the hills.

Scene 8 - Ryan’s workshop - INT. Ryan’s animation workshop (2D &

3D)

Shot 1
The ship flies in through a shuttered window and lands on the window sill. Ellie and Pugwash
jump out of the boat and slide down onto the window sill on a rope. They run off the edge of the
screen on a shelf, past a newspaper clipping of Ryan which winks at Ellie.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
The John Ryan spoke of a world of his own,
And his own special studio, built in his home.
His characters moved, given life by his hands,
Loved and adored by his friends and his fans.

Shot 2
Ellie runs along a shelf containing bottles, paint brushes etc. She looks down on Ryan’s
sketchbook which has a drawing of Pugwash on it.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
He drew me a Pugwash, signed and gave it to me,
To remind me of our adventures upon the high sea.

Ryan’s 3D Hans and pencil come into shot, and he draws a rowing boat for Pugwash and Ellie,
which they get into.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
And with all that excitement the party was over,
My mum came to find me and we went home to Dover.

Waves form across the paper and go in behind the A in Ryan’s signature, creating a tunnel. Ellie
and Pugwash row towards it.
ELLIE AS NARRATOR
But all the things Ryan said will not leave my mind,
And a path to animation I’d eventually find.
A life of creation and new worlds is mine,
The ability to make daydreams come real is divine.

Shot 3
Pugwash and Ellie row into the tunnel with has drawn waves and swirling python script swirling
around the outside of the tunnel, correcting and erasing the error messages in real life, like a
light tunnel.

ELLIE AS NARRATOR
Time to return to the real world at last,
But I’ll never forget this event from my past.
This little adventure may be from my dreams,
But nothing in animation is what it first seems….
