Q.2 What should Josh and Caleb do with Launchboard?
They should continue with the development of Launchboard as a completely separate product. This is because the Launchboard is focused on the
evaluation and monitoring of new business in place, while the OVC focused on providing an experiential learning by launching a business on Shopify in
an academic setting. Hence, the target segment for the Launchboard is entrepreneurs and startups, and not university students and teachers.
Although there maybe some overlap among these segments, offering it along with OVC as a complementary product might create confusion among the
customers. The professors were the critical decision-makers, thus the total market for OVC was too narrow and also these professors were very
opinionated and had their own way of teaching, it took lot of effort convincing them to adapt to the standardized way of teaching that the OVC product
demanded.
Presently, Launchboard was still at the developmental stage and scalability of the product to serve large audiences was not something that was tested.
So, they should start by evolving the Launchboard demo into a reliable and full-scale product.
However, they should continue to stay in the OVC business in parallel, maintaining their revenue generating customers as well as expanding their
business.
