 It can be defined as one of the most important functions of management


 It is the process of hiring eligible candidates in the organization or company for specific
positions.
 In management, it is an operation of recruiting the employees by evaluating their skills,
knowledge and then offering them specific job roles accordingly.
 It is the management function that determines human resource needs, recruits, selects,
trains, and develop human resources for jobs created by an organization.
STAFFING PROCEDURES
1. Human Resource Planning
 is a process that identifies current and future human resources needs for an
organization to achieve its goals
 human resource planning may involve three activities, as follows:
 Forecasting- an assessment of future human resource needs in relation to the
current capabilities of the organization.
 Programming- translating of the result in forecasting to personnel objective
goals.
 Evaluation and Control- monitoring the action plans and evaluating the success
of the human resource.
2. Recruitment
 Next logical step after identifying the necessary positions that’s needed to fill up.
 It refers to the overall process of attracting, and shortlisting, suitable candidates for
jobs (either permanent or temporary) within an organization
 Attracting qualifies persons to apply for the vacant positions.

 Newspaper Advertising
 Schools
 Referrals from employees
 Recruitment firms
 Competitors
3. Selection
 It is an act of choosing from the applicants the individuals that is most likely to succeed
on the job
 The purpose of this is to pick the most suited person for the available positions
4. Induction and Orientation
 This is where the new employee is provided with the necessary information about the
company, his duties, his responsibilities, and the benefits he has.
 This is where the new employee is introduced to the immediate working environment
and co-workers
5. Training and Development
 It is a necessity if the newly-hired employee is assessed to be lacking of necessary skills
required by the job
 Training programs consists of two general types

6. Performance Appraisal
 It is the measurement of employee’s performance
 The purpose of this are the following
 To influence the employees positive performance
 To determine pay increase
 To plan for future performance goals
 To determine the training and development needs
 To assess the promotional potential of the employee
7. Employment Decisions

 Transfer
 Demotion
8. Separation
 It is either voluntary or involuntary termination of an employee
 it is the option that the management exercise when an employee’s performance is
poor or when it violates the company’s rules and regulations
SUMMARY
Staffing can be defined as one of the most important functions of management. It involves
the process of filling the vacant position of the right personnel at the right job, at right time. Hence,
everything will occur in the right manner.
There are 8 staffing process and these are human resource planning, recruitment, selection,
induction and orientation, training and development, performance appraisal, employment decisions,
and separation. It is a truth that human resource is one of the greatest for every organization because
in any organization all other resources like- money, material, machine etc. can be utilized effectively
and efficiently by the positive efforts of human resource.
Therefore it is very important that each and every person should get right position in the
organization so as to get the right job, according to their ability, talent, aptitude, and specializations
so that it will help the organization to achieve the pre-set goals in the proper way by the 100%
contribution of manpower.
