A Narrative Report

What is research? Why do research? How important is research to your chosen

field? Do you love research? Questions asked by Dr. Regin Rex P. Tosco of Trece Martires
City Colleges handling MaEd – Methods of Research.

When we think of research, we often think of analyzing scholarly information.

However, research is a process to discover new knowledge, an art of scientific investigation
and finding a solution to a problem. No matter what topic is being studied, the value of the
research depends on how well it is designed and done.

We do research because it is a tool for building knowledge, a means to understand

various issues and a way to prove lies and support truths. It helps them to have a detailed
analysis of everything. When you have proper in depth analysis on any topic, the result
comes out to be fruitful and also the knowledge is enhanced.

Research is important especially in our chosen field because it gives direction to

deal with a specific problem. Whether the problem is thoroughly solved or not is not the
forte of the research work. Because of research, we are able to learn new things, like
people and events, we are able to gather enough information to make smart decisions and
will help us to understand, well, exactly what we are researching.

I love research because it is my chance to discover something new and puts me in

control of my learning. It can be fun and might challenge us to move outside our comfort
zone. When you do find something, it’s all the more rewarding because you’ve learned
something all on your own.

During the session, Dr. Tosco shared feedbacks and output and additional
information that enlighten us about the research. He even asked 4 students to go in front
of the class showing products of research such as: thin canned soda, an instant noodles, a
battery and a leading brand of shampoo. Hearing those kind of experiments makes me
more eager to find out how things are made and develop. For sure, with the help of our
professor, I will surely and will definitely love research.
