March 16, 1521

 They came upon a high land from islands Ladroni named “zamal”.
March 17, 1521

 The captain general desired to land on another island which was uninhabited in order to be more
secure.
March 18, 1521

 They saw a boat coming towards them with a men in it, the captain general ordered that no one
should move or do other things without his permission. When those men reach the other shore
their chief immediately went towards the captain general as a sign of joy and they are their
companions.
March 22, 1521

 Those men promised to fill the two boats with coconuts sweet oranges, a jar of palm wine and a
cock, in order to show us that there were fowls in district. They stayed in that place for a week,
the captain general always visit the sick in the morning to give the coconut water to drink

 On the afternoon of Holy Monday, the day of our lady, March twenty-five, while we were on the
point of weighing the anchor. I went to the side of the ship to fish and putting my feet upon a yard
leading down into the storeroom, they slipped for it was rainy and consequently I fell into the sea,
so that one no one saw me.
March 28, 1521

 On Thursday morning, March twenty-eight, as we had seen a fire on an island the night before we
anchored near it. We saw a small boat which the natives called boloto (baroto) with eight men in
it, approaching the flagship.
March 29, 1521

 Next day, Holy Friday, the captain general sent his slave, who acted as our interpreter, ashore in a
small boat to ask the king if he had any food to have it carried to the ships, and to say that they
would be well satisfied with us, for he and his men had come to the island as friends and not as
enemies.
March 30, 1521

 When they dawned, the king came and took me by the hand, and in that matter we went to where
we had supper, in order to partake of refreshments, but the boat came to get us. One of his
brothers, the king of another isalnd, and three men came with us. Before we left, the king kissed
our hands with great and joy. The captain general kept him to dine with us, and give him many
days.

March 31, 1521

 Early on the morning of Sunday, the last of March and Easter day, the captain general sent the
priest with some men to prepare the place where mass was to be said; together with the interpreter
to thell the king that we were not going to land in order to dine with him, but to say Mass.
Therefore the king sent us to swine that he killed.

Limasawa

 The rice to Magellan’s men might have been brought from nearby Leyte.
 The mountain whre the Cross was erected are not far from the coast.
 It might not have been a high mountain.
 Peter Schreurs, presented the statement of Professor Celedonio Resurreccion who claimed that
the two third degrees is the location of Butuan/Masao and not Limasawa.
 The author said that this was incorrect because he questioned where Butuan was located in 1521.
 He stated that Butuan has been transferred several times in history.
 According to Esteban Rodriguez, there was “a difference of one fourth of a degree or more”
between the Spanish method of measuring and Mexican method of measuring.
Butuan

 Replaced the name “Mazua” in more than 300 years of subsequent secondary writings.
 Mazua has multiple variants in historiography (Mazana, Dimasaua, Limasaua, Masava, Masaba,
Masana, Massana, Messane, Mazagua, Macagua, Macanor etc.).
 Francisco Combes only mentioned the cross-raising at “Dimasaia”, leaving us to guess wether or
not there was a Mass at all.
 Mazaua of Pigafetta must have been the barrio of Butuan City.
 Butuan is far away from Calagan.
 Mazaua os far away from Butuan with a lot of seawater between them.
 Mazaua is not even in Mindanao.
