Reflection Paper About the Count of Monte Cristo

While viewing the movie Count of Monte Cristo, I feel excited and at the same time happy. I do not know

why I had a feeling like that but the only thing I know is that I am interested in movies like this one. As a matter

of fact, I often find movies and anime with a protagonist like that, it feels like I can learn something from those

kinds of videos. And I am correct, it is not a waste of time viewing movies like this. This movie talks about,

friendship, love, envy, betrayal, injustice, revenge, loyalty, and God. Being able to portray those themes makes

the work beautiful that its rating is 77% according to IMDb. True friends are hard to find, be cautious with your

friends, now they are your friends but tomorrow you are enemies.

Having a friend is indeed grate but having a true is priceless. All of us have many friends but only are true

to us, some just making us their friend when they want something from us and others making friends to us but

having secret agenda, to make us suffer. Realizing this while watching the movie makes me think of two persons,

the one is my childhood friend and rival in academics and the other is my closest friend and at the same time my

brother by faith, I consider him as a true friend. The first one is like Fernand Mondego, he will do anything to

become at the top and when it is my time to say, “King’s to me,” he cannot accept it and transferred to another

school. This kind of friend will not bring us good because a true friend will be happy with his friend’s success

and comfort in times of pain. The second type of friend is like Jacopo, a friend who will dedicate his life to his

friend. I and my true friend always have a good time when we are together, even though there is a time that we

argue on something but thanks to God we still friend until now. A friend will become a true and loyal friend to

you when you prove first that you are his/her true friend. Just like what King Solomon wrote in the book of

Proverbs 18:24, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a

brother,” a true friend will never leave us even in the worst times.

Letting go of a friend like Fernand before he/she starts to envy you and thinks evil to you. If a friend

cannot understand and accepts that you are better than him/her, think immediately, do not hesitate to finish off

your friendship because envy is only drive by evil and it will do no good in your friendship. Later on, an envious
friend will betray you because that friend is not taking you as a friend anymore but a treat that needs to eliminate.

Envious friends are greedy, they want all attention and achievements to be theirs. I remember when I was in grade

10, the people that I thought they are my friends, are the ones who always betray me and let themselves be raised

by our adviser. I always do my responsibility in the classroom’s cleanliness before doing my job as a Supreme

Student Government officer, but they always make me the one who is not cleaning in front of our adviser where

in fact they help me in the task rarely.

As a Christian who has a better understanding of the situation, I just do not talk to them and do not confront

them because it will only result in chaos. Letting my emotions lead me will not do any good, learning to control

my emotions and start taking deep breaths before making an action towards a certain thing will do much better. I

know how to control my emotions even at the worst time because the teachings of every preaching that I heard

are sealed in my heart and mind. With this knowledge and wisdom, I can act at my fullest in any situation I might

be into, knowing what is good and what is right to improve my sense of justice but at the same time, it improves

my understanding of people that cannot understand it. Even so betraying by them is painful and my feeling of

injustice in the actions of our teacher, I chose to be silent and let God work for it.

“God will give you justice,” it stands as a foundation of the faith of Edmond Dantès, the protagonist of

the movie Count of Monte Cristo. Having this kind of quotation when Edmond enters his cell, it is like a lifesaver

for Edmond, from any form of suicide. It is indeed a good quotation that can be held into, like what I just one

year ago. Faith makes it possible because without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Letting

God work for the injustice you are facing right now will not come in vain if your faith is like a root true olive tree

you are more likely to have an answer to a prayer. Even if Edmond insists that he does not believe anymore to

God in the time where the priest intrudes in his cell, 4 years in the prison, deep inside his heart, he still believes

that God will give him justice and so, it happens. God gives Edmond, Abbe Faria for him to learn all that he needs

to know before making an escape in the prison. The blessing of Edmond is great that even if he almost loses faith,

God is still out there working for the justice he deserves. We should not rush things up because God has His own
timing, and all occur according to His plans and decisions if you have something that you want to be done just

keep on praying and it will be done. In fact, God knows all that we want and what is for us because He is

Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient.

Taking revenge for yourself will not do any good. One mistake cannot be corrected by another mistake,

revenge is not good. Remember the Golden Rule: “Do unto others, what you want others to do unto you,” Matthew

7:12. Even if someone did something to me so terrible, I will not be mad at him, unless I will talk to him sincerely

and make him realize that what he did is not right. Here goes the Filipino version of the Golden Rule “Kapag

binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay,” I should not fight back instead I should understand him/her and make

peace with each other because it is the best way to resolve conflicts. There are people that are by nature and are

so stubborn and hard to deal with, so my only option is to let God punish him/her for me. Like Fernand, he

betrayed his best friend to acquire something, but Edmond did not want to kill him. Fernand’s death is not

Edmonds fault perhaps God Himself let it happen as punishment to the sins of Fernand because he did not even

think of saying sorry and feel guilty to what he had done to Edmond.

The scripture tells in Romans 12:19, “Vengeance is mine,” it is the line says by Abbé Faria to Edmond

Dantes while he was dying. God probably let Fernand be killed because it is what has to happen. Like Edmond,

we should not put the punishment of people who did wrong into our hands, we can put them in jail and let justice

makes them suffer. It is more pleasing to God if we will not kill somebody like what happened to King David,

God did not want King David to build His temple but King David’s son, King Solomon because his hands have

no taint of blood. If we give the vengeance to God, we will be more pleasing to God because of we no taint of

any blood. We are just humans, after all, God is the only one who has the authority to do the revenge for his

people, He is our Heavenly Father, after all, a father will never let his child lost.

Love has different types, friends, to another sex, family, and God. Anyone will do anything for love, who

wouldn't do everything for love right? A friend’s love will make us feel comfortable whenever we are with them.
Every friend comfort each other and most of us will first come to our friends in times of trouble because in them

we feel comfortable and our friends usually makes us feel better and lighter, that is for girls but for boys, they just

hang out in the bar or they will just buy alcoholic drinks and drink all they want until they cannot take it anymore

to relieve their problems, which actually not the best way to do so. A love, between the opposite gender, usually

we always do the same thing in our best friend but being with our lover makes us complete and secure because

how they care to us is unique. We intend to come to them when we are in trouble because we think that our lovers

can help us more rather than our families which is a misconception. We always cannot see the grace, mercy, and

love of God at all times because most of the time most of us focus on what we are seeing materially and fail to

see that there is God above us.

The love of our God is everlasting, He just waiting for us to repent and come to Him and ask for help and

guidance. God always hears His children’s prayer. Our Father God always waiting for us to come to Him, in fact,

we should come to Him first in times of problems and ask him to help us to overcome this. If we repent all of our

sins are cleansed and we should not be do it again with respect to the kindness of our Father who is willing to

forgive us no matter how big our sins are. After repenting and going back to have faith in Him, we have the

chance to become his child and be a beneficiary of our Lord Jesus Christ left for us. We should not question the

love of God to us because He gave his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, for us to be saved and freed from our sins.

It is just our choice to follow Him or let the evil snatch it all again to us. Our Father’s kindness is not ending,

forever and ever.

It is God’s grace that made all the success of Edmond and no other else. God works for Edmond to escape

and it is indeed all things are predestined because God prepared for so many years for when the time comes when

Edmond will be in jail, there is someone who will help him and teach all he needs to know. God works

mysteriously and even if we did not see it our Father God always works for us.
