1. What is the film all about?


-The 1986 film ‘Kamagong’ is all about a young boy who wants to give justice for the his
older brother death.
2. Who are the characters in the film?
-The main character or the protagonist is Lito Lapid who portrayed the role of Manuel in
the film. The antagonist is Ruel Vernal as Lorenzo Montero in the film. Other characters
are J.C. Bonnin as Ariel Salgado, Eddie Garcia as Mr. Guevarra, Mia Pratts as Belen,
Dencio Padilla as Dencio, Jaime Fabregas as Cenon Beltran, Julio Diaz as Emilio
Salgado, and Bong Dimayacyac as Melissa.
3. How does Arnis help the main character in this film?
-The Arnis helped the main character to be more discipline and on some point used for
self-defense when he is in trouble. In the film, the weapon was being used as an
instrument of justice.
4. What does Arnis de Mano and Master Sutero means in this film? Explain and provide an
example
-Arnis de Mano means “Harness or Seize the Hand”, considered one of the famous
martial arts known in the Philippines. This type of martial art most probably uses stick or
bladed weapon during the training and fighting. It’s a simple yet practical type of combat
strategy originally designed for self-defense purpose.
- Master Surterto said in the earlier part of the movie “The Kamagong can only be used in
fighting for justice and straightening what’s wrong.” He knows the worth of utilizing and
playing Arnis. He doesn’t have bad intentions in using it.
5. How do consider the attitude of the main character as an Arnisador following the cardinal
rules of Arnis?
-In the film the main character follows the cardinal principle in Arnis; the Arnisador
possesses:
(1) Discipline- Arnis is a molder of discipline. Proper behavior in the sport and in life
itself will be the gauge of success. Personal discipline is important. And in the film
the main character showed how discipline him.
(2) Loyalty- this principle showed in the film when Ariel got beaten up against Lorenzo
in the hill.
(3) Bravery- In the last battle in the movie, he fights Lorenzo without breaking any rules.
(4) Sportsmanship- In the first fight of the movie, Manuel accepts the decision of the
other
(5) Self- control- losing one's head means defeat. One should learn to control his temper
if he hopes to achieve success in every endeavor. In Arnis, self-control is important
for without it, life and the good health of another may be lost. The possession of an
ability to kill or main a person should be handled with extreme caution and prudence.

example scenario in the movie.
-Manuel used band y band, redonda, sinawali on his training.

-Arnis before was used as a self-defense if there are harm in the environment as well as
used in fighting for our pride, but now Arnis is viewed and used as a form of activities or
a sport.
8. Can you consider suggesting this fil m to watch with others?
-Yes, I would consider recommending this film for it not only brings entertainment, you
will also learn about the history, techniques and the purpose of Arnis.

9. What is the moral of the film?


-The moral lesson of this film is not all things can be bought with money.

10. What have you learn from the character of Lito Lapid after watching this film?
-I have learned that you don’t need to rush things in order to get revenge on someone or
to achieve something in life.
