What will happen in terms of jobs losses and skills as IoT makes devices
and robots more intelligent?
As Internet of Things makes devices and robots more intelligent, a lot of
people think that unemployment rate will increase since technology will replace
manpower. Some of the jobs we currently have will eventually disappear but the IoT
will create a lot of new job opportunities as well. The truth is we will never loose jobs
or else skills, but the skills and jobs that will be acquired will be different because of
IoT. There will be a lot of jobs that the IoT can automate but IoT will also offer a
thousands of new jobs. The Internet has reached thousands of people and created
jobs like software engineer or architect web development engineer, chatbox
designer, social media manager and database architect. The Internet of Things is
creating a wealth of new jobs that no one saw coming.
On the other hand, the negative part of IoT making devices and robots more
intelligent is that it is not only the low-skilled jobs that automation and connected
devices are affected, but in the future accountants, drivers, financial advisors, and
insurance underwriters will not be able to avoid partial or full automation. There will
be a decrease in employment in a highly - structured jobs. It is inevitable to think that
there are some people who are not well skilled in operating technologies and some
are afraid that the Internet of Things will only create jobs that require high skills and
that will be a barrier for the people to make a switch.
Technology continues to advance everyday. So does the technology, we
humans need to change for the better, be updated and continuously develop new
skills cause if we refuse the change, things will get really difficult.
