IV-A1 Business Ethics.

Case 1:

1. If you were Anna, will you obey your boss? Why or why not?
Yes I would still obey my boss. Based on psychology definition, it is not
interested in the morality of human behavior. So it is my behaviour to follow my boss
despite of his unjustly act. I would still do my job rather than being jobless.

2. Are you morally obligated to follow an order that is illegal?

No, because when we talk about morality it is very obvious that it’s immoral to
oblige the order of my boss that is illegal. Ethics and law are closely related; ethics deals
with morality and when you talk about morality it pertains to moral law.

3. Explain the moral implications of the military slogan. “Obey first before you complain.

It’s about following and doing of whatever commands they assigned to you.
Being obedient and respectful to your boss means you are gaining their trust and it is an
important factor to your job. But when it comes to ethics, this slogan is not always
pertinent. Always think the moral or immoral effect before you obey this rule.

Case 2:

1. It is right to sell pirated DVDs and X-rated tapes in the shadow of a certified
video shop? Briefly explain why.
No, selling pirated DVDs and X-rated tapes is still a product of piracy and it is
illegal even if it is being created in the certified video shop. It will have a negative effect
on the filmmakers and it may bring loss on their business transactions. If this illegal
activity continues, the production of quality movies may also be affected.

2. Research what law does Mr. Santos violate and explain its implication to the
business.

*Selling of fake DVDs and compact discs (CDs) is a violation of Section 19 of

Republic Act 9239 or the Optical Media Board Act of 2003, which is punishable with
imprisonment of three to six years.
*Selling of X-rated tapes is a violation of THE ANTI-OBSCENITY AND
PORNOGRAPHY ACT OF 2008, The Bill was passed on July 24, 2008 in the Congress,
(which went unnoticed within the art/ photography circles), and now in the Philippine
Senate bans the showing of human bodies with exposed female breasts as pornographic
because it will - "arouse impure thoughts." Anyone who exhibits or writes about it gets
up to 12 years in jail and a P1 million fine.

Although he operates illegal activities, its implication to the business may still be
a threat to its competitors. Several customers tend to buy pirated DVDs because of its
cheaper price. Filmmakers will surely get affected by this.
