Q1. How are CTS,CTQ,CTD,CTC,CTP used in a 6  process ?

Ans:

6 ~= business strategy.
Business Focus ~= Customer Focus.
Customer Focus ~=CTS (Crtitical to customer Satisfaction)
CTS = f(Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Safety)
Process Focus =CTP
Project selection = CTQ,CTC,CTD, CTP
Project to be ROI basis
To boost the bottom line and enhance customer satisfaction one has to select project based
on business priority through CTS,CTQ,CTD,CTC,CTP
 First thing is to know your business, customer, market and Competitors.

Q2. Why is this program called 6 sigma ?

Customer Satisfaction = Q x A (Quality X acceptability)

Quality Improvements is done using advance statistics i.e., core tools of Six Sigma
Acceptability is a soft skill issue like managing change, leadership, CRM etc.
It works on the principle Y= F(x) controlling the output (Y)(CTS,CTQ,CTC,CTD,CTP) by
reducing variation (x)

6 is a representation of this philosophy as  is variation and six times Sigma means


reduced variation. It means very low chances of failure in the business (3.4 ppm level)

Another fact is that it’s a catchy name given to market this tool as it’s not only statistics but
it also covers softer skills required for CTS. “Six Sigma is the most important initiative for
change we have ever undertaken. We’re happy to report that it’s becoming a way of life at
Bechtel.”

Q3. Prepare a checklist to verify if a selected project qualifies as a 6  project

 Does project based on CTS, CTC, CTQ, CTD, CTP?


 Is project based on ROI?
 Is project High Impact to business?
 Does project based on Business Priority? (BOS, MFO, Business Plan)
 Does project move the facility toward 6 (3.4 PPM)?
 Does project address process or product issues?
 Does this project require the skills of a Black Belt?
Other Questions:

 Any company going for improvement have opted for initiative like Problem solving
Teams, 5s, TQM, TPM. When and What will provoke the organisation (TOP guy) to
look for initiative like 6.
 What is our business USP (besides our client GAIL) in six sigma practice?
 Organization calls us for Improvement activities. What is the basis for us to decide that
we do with them SIX sigma initiative or look for small incremental Improvements. Do
we have some systematic Diagnostic tool to say that your cure for this disease is 6.
