1887 – Rizal’s first homecoming..

4 reasons :
1. To operate his mother’s eyes.

To serve his people who had long been oppressed by the Spanish tyrants.

To find out for himself how the noli.

Gov. General Emilio Terrero – requested Rizal to got to malacanan and informed him of his charges and
explained that he merely exposed the truth.

February 1888 – Rizal leave our country for the second time.

RIZAL IN HONGKONG

Feb 3, 1888- after a short stay of six mothts in calamba, he boarded the zafiro. He arrived in hongkong
on feb. 8.

Victoria Hotel – where rizal stayed, was welcomed by the Filipino including Jose Maria Basa.

Feb. 22, 1888 – left hong kong on board the oceanic. To japan.

Kiu kiang

Feb 28, 1888 – rizal in japan. At Yokohama, next day to Tokyo. (Spanish Lagation)

Seiko Usui (O-Sei-San) – Rizal’s chick in Japan.

April 28, 1888 – Rizal in US.

Belgic (Ship)

May 4, 1888 – Rizal on San fracisco. He left Oakland then to Sacrament

May 6 – he arrived in Reno, Nevada then to Colorado and Nebraska, then Chicago and Albany.

May 13, Sunday – he reached New York.

May 16 1888 - he left New York for Liverpool on board the city of Rome.

May 24 1888 – Rizal in London, he stayed as a guest of Dr. Antonio Regidor, an excile and practicing
lawyer.

End of May – he transferred to a new boarding house owned by the BECKETT FAMILY.

Gertrude Beckett (Gettie) – one- way affair (Rizal)

March 1889 – from London, Rizal went back to Paris.

Valentin Ventura - he sponsored El Fili.

Jan. 28, 1890 – rizal left Brussels.

Reasons why he left Brussels.

1. The cost of living in Paris was too high.


2. The gay social life of the city.

He received a letter from Juan Luna and Valentin Ventura about Filipino’s gambling.

May 281 1890- he wrote MHDP to remind the Filipinos in Madrid not to gamble, but to help work for
their motherland’s freedom.

Suzanne Jacoby (petite Suzanne) – attracted to Rizal.

August 1890 – Rizal back in Madrid.

French Basque Coast – rizal took his vacation

Bousted family (Eduardo Boustead), Adelina and Nellie (Eduardo’s Daughters)

Madrid to Brussels

Ghent –where he searched for a printer for his novel.

Sept. 18, 1891 – at last, El Fili came off the press.

Two copies to Hong Kong, one for Basa and the other for Sixto Lopez.

Nov. 1891 – June 1892 – he stayed Hong Kong.

Nov. 30, 1891 – arrived in Hong Kong and was welcomed by the Filipino residents, specially his old friend
Jose Ma. Basa.

Christmas of 1891 – Last Christmas of Jose Rizal.

Dr. Lorenzo Marquez – Portuguese Physician.

May 1892 – Rizal made up his mind to return to Manila.

June 19 1892 – he had premonition of his death.
