ERECTION METHODOLOGY: METRO GAISANO - BAY
INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this erection methodology is to provide written guidelines for the
Project In-Charge, Site Supervisors and Inspectors to implement the correct and safe
installation of structural members for the project METRO GAISANO – BAY.

This methodology shall be used in conjunction with the Approved Engineering

Standards, Drawings, Specifications and other related procedure required by the
Client.

Note:

Whenever required, this procedure shall be adjusted or updated based on the degree
of complexity of the project to be undertaken and / or instructed by the client or its
authorized representative(s) based on actual site condition.

I. TRANSPORTATION OF MATERIALS TO SITE

A. Fabricated steel structure shall be transported from GDC shop to site

storage area.
B. The materials shall be transported to the site either by trucks or trailers
depending on the size of steel members. All materials dispatched to site
shall be recorded.
C. Upon arrival of materials to site, all materials shall be stored, checked
and prepared for erection.

II. CHECKING AND STORAGE

A. Prior to the materials arrival at job site all necessary lifting

gadgets/equipment shall be available to handle the materials to storage
area, all items shall be checked against delivery receipt.
B. After arrival of materials at the storage area, all items shall be
visually inspected and checked. In case of heavy damage during
transport, they shall be sent back to fabrication plant for repair. Minor
damage or deformation, however, shall be repaired at site.
C. The materials shall be carefully handled properly stocked to
prevent deformation, and damages.
ERECTION METHODOLOGY: METRO GAISANO - BAY
III. SURVEY

A. Control.

The primary surveying control for the project will be a system of

surveying stations and level benchmarks established by the General
Contractor or Main Contractor. The primary surveying stations and
benchmarks shall be located outside the hoarding of the site. The
intersection of the gridlines springing from the surveying stations
defines the geometric center of those columns.

It is the responsibility of the Main Contractor or Consultants to preserve,

monitor and advice of any changes or alteration to the primary control.

B. Geometric Control

The Geometry of the structure will be controlled and monitored for

horizontal dimensions, height (level) and verticality (plumb) by using a
system of surveying control stations, level bench marks, established in
and around the frame of the structure, in conjunction with the surveying
instrument and techniques.

The primary surveying instrument will consist of:

1. Theodolite (transit) and traversing equipment.

2. Calibrated measuring tape
3. Automatic level

The method statement requires and allows provision for transferring the
surveying control stations up through the structure to areas allocated for
these purposes. Some local ground settlement may be anticipated
during the early stage of erection, possibly causing certain displacement
of the surveying stations established both inside and outside the
hoarding.

C. Transfer of Control Grid

Using a Transit or appropriate leveling instrument will level the transfer

of erection grid from the ground level surveying stations at the footing of
the hoarding specified elevations of the structure, out.

D. Transfer of Level Bench Mark (Optional)

ERECTION METHODOLOGY: METRO GAISANO - BAY

Transfer of level benchmark from one floor to another elevated floor

shall be measured by transit.

E. Alignment and Surveying Method

The alignment adjustment will be carried out by a system of survey

stations, alignment, wire or nylon rope, lever blocks and chain blocks.

IV. BOLTING

A. General

1. Always store bolts under cover until they are needed and keep
them clean. Don’t abuse the bolts during handling and
installation.
2. Prior to final tightening, all connections shall be cleaned to bring
connecting members to close contract.
3. When tightening a connection, always work from the center to the
free edges.
4. Projecting ends of bolts shall not exceed five threads on visible
steel work unless it is specified on plan.
5. Install lock nuts on slip connections and nick threads.

V. FIELD WELDING

A. General

Field welding shall be performed in accordance with the relevant section

of particular/master specifications, and detailed procedures.

Main points will be as follows:

Shielded metal arc welding using low hydrogen electrodes for all site
welding works;

1. Typical field weld joints.

Typical weld joints will be as specified on plans.

2. Welding procedures.
The welding procedures shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1-96.

3. Field welding on site.

The welding shall be performed in accordance with the approved
welding procedures. The copies of approved “Field welding
procedure specification” being used for the job instruction to
welders are placed with the erection drawing in the working area
ERECTION METHODOLOGY: METRO GAISANO - BAY
in order to know, the procedures at any time. The group leaders
carefully instruct to their welders the content of this document
such as electrodes, amperage, voltage, etc.

VI. NON-CONFORMING ITEMS

A. GENERAL

In case of non-conforming items to be repaired, a repair procedure

should be submitted for approval prior to its implementation.

VII. DETAILED ERECTION PROCEDURE AND SEQUENCE

The construction site office, storage area, warehouse and other facilities
required should be established to ensure safety and security of materials
and personnel.

A. GENERAL
1. Mobilization of the erection crew with the necessary equipment.

a. Prepare and install all necessary power lines from the nearest
point of the power supply to the assembly area.
b. Match marking and proper storage of members and component
parts of the structure to ensure proper assembly and
positioning when final assembly commences.

DETAILED ERECTION SEQUENCE AND PROCEDURE

A. ANCHOR BOLT SETTING

ERECTION METHODOLOGY: METRO GAISANO - BAY
The basis of Anchor Bolt Setting is dependent on template.

a. The proposed template is designed to ensure the required protrusion of bolt on

top of concrete pedestal will be attained. (See Fig. 1)

Fig. 1

b. Use template with punchmark on its center that follows every gridline from
x-axis and y-axis. (See Fig. 2)

Fig. 2

c. Install anchor bolts. (See Fig. 3)

Fig. 3

d. Maintain the required distance between column to column. Check the

alignment. (See Fig. 4)

e. Fix the template for alignment in x-axis and y-axis. Check elevation of anchor
bolts.

f. Check for the verticality and final elevation of Anchor Bolts before pouring.
