4.0 LAYOUT OF BREAKWATER

The layout of the breakwater provided in "Part II - Employers Requirement",

Ref /1/ is shown in Figure 2-1. The breakwater is located along the Gujarat
coast on the southern side of the Pipavav Port. The total length of the
breakwater is approximately 2200m and its alignment is fixed as shown in the
tender documents. From CH 0 to CH 350m, the breakwater doesn't not have
wave wall. The wave wall is included in the breakwater section from CH 350
up to CH 1375m. From CH 1375m to the round head section (up to 2200 m )
the breakwater consist of AccropodeTM II units on the crest. The low crested
groyne is a rubble mound structure with rock as primary armour units.
The groyneis located on the eastern side of the port and is approximately
225m in length.

5.0 BATHYMETRY

The general bathymetry along the length of breakwater is presented in

Drawing No: DW-NMIIPL-1101-08 Rev 00 dated on 08.01.2017). In
general, it is observed that the bathymetry offshore from CH 900m to
CH 2200m along the breakwater alignment is flat with a water depth
varying between -18 to -19.0m CD. On the contrary, from CH 300 to
CH 900m the bathymetry is steep with depths varying between -5 and
-13 m CD.

5.1 SEABED FROM CH 1050 m TO CH 2200 m

The loose materials(sand/clay) along the alignment of the breakwater

from CH 1050m to the Round head (CH 2200 m) were removed by
dredging in 2017. The bathymetry survey carried out after the dredging
operations shows the actual dredged depth along the breakwater
alignment and are presented in Figure 2-3. Figure 2-3The dredged
areas along the breakwater alignment will be backfilled with dredged

materials (calcareous rocks) obtained from turning circle/basin up to a

bed level of -18.0m CD. The breakwater will be constructed upon
completion of the backfilling activity and post survey to be carried out
after completion of backfilling.

6.0 METOCEAN PARAMETERS

3.1 INTRODUCTION
The metocean parameters used for the hydraulic design of the
breakwater in shallow water(up to
CH 800m) and deep water (from CH 800m to round head) sections are
presented in the following section.

3.2 HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL DATUM

All the levels are referred to Chart datum ( CD) at Jafrabad , which is
1.8m below mean sea level (MSL), as per clause 6.3.8.4 of Ref /1/.

3.3 ASTORONOMICAL TIDE

The tidal levels to be considered for the project site as per clause
6.3.8.4 of /1/are presented in Table 3-1.

Mean Lower High Water ( MLHW) +2.40

Mean Sea Level ( MSL) +1.80

Mean Higher Low water ( MHLW) +1.20

Mean Lower Low water ( MLLW) +0.5

Lowest Low Water Spring( LLWS) +0.01
