CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION TO
ORGANIZATION

7
INTRODUCTION

Organization is a process which integrates different type of activities to achieve organizational

goals and objectives, to achieve these goals there must be competent management providing
them all those factors to perform their job efficiently and effectively. Organization is nothing
but is a process of integrating and coordinating the efforts of men and material for the
accomplishment of set objectives. Organization is the process of identifying and grouping work
to be performed, defining and delegating responsibility and authority and establishing
relationships for the purpose of enabling people to work most effectively together in
accomplishing objectives.
Thus, the careful analysis of organizations is a serious and important matter. It is not just an
academic exercise. Organizations are continuously analyzed from a variety of perspectives.
Organizations are open system- they affect and are affected by their environment.

PROFILE OF THE PRODUCTS/SERVICES:

12
13
What is PVC:

 PVC is the world's third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer, after
polyethylene and polypropylene. About 40 million tones are produced per year.

 PVC comes in two basic forms: rigid (sometimes abbreviated as RPVC) and flexible.
The rigid form of PVC is used in construction for pipe and in profile applications such
as doors and windows. It is also used in making bottles, non-food packaging, food-
covering sheets, and cards (such as bank or membership cards). It can be made softer
and more flexible by the addition of plasticizers, the most widely used being phthalates.
In this form, it is also used in plumbing, electrical cable insulation, imitation leather,
flooring, signage, phonograph records, inflatable products, and many applications
where it replaces rubber. With cotton or linen, it is used to make canvas.

 PVC is produced in two general forms, first as a rigid or plasticized polymer (RPVC or
uPVC), and second as a flexible plastic. Flexible, plasticized or regular PVC is softer
and more amenable to bending than uPVC due to the addition of plasticizers like
phthalates (e.g. diisononyl phthalate or DINP). Flexible PVC is commonly used in
construction as insulation on electrical wires or in flooring for homes, hospitals,
schools, and other areas where a sterile environment is a priority, and in some cases as
a replacement for rubber.

 Some of the most significant properties of Polyvinyl Chloride

(PVC) are:

 Density: PVC is very dense compared to most plastics

 Economics: PVC is readily available and cheap.
 Hardness: Rigid PVC is very hard.
 Strength: Rigid PVC has extremely good tensile strength.

14
Product profile:

PVC:
Polyvinyl chloride pipe is made from a plastic and vinyl combination material. The pipes
are durable, hard to damage, and long lasting. They do not rust, rot, or wear over time. For
that reason, PVC piping is most commonly used in water systems, underground wiring, and
sewer lines. PVC was first developed in 1925 and in late 1930's it was found that PVC pipes
have good shock and fire resistance abilities, this resulted in creation of a long-lasting PVC
pipes.
PVC pipe was invented, by heating a machine called an extruder in which PVC raw
materials are pushed into hollow pipes. This made piping that was extremely solid and
virtually indestructible. Using these pipes for irrigation systems proved to be effective, and
PVC pipe has since been considered an affordable and reliable means for water piping.

This manufacturing unit produces PVC(Poly-vinyl-chloride) pipes in various

diameters, and each size is used for different purposes.

 The above mentioned are the thickness of various categories(profiles).

 In each profile they manufacture 13 different varieties varying in diameter. These
diameters start from 20mm upto 200mm. Each variety has its own purpose.

15
 The pipes with less diameter are mainly used for insulating electrical wires, as PVC is
a bad conductor of electricity. The medium diameter pipes are used for water supply
above and under the ground with the variation in class profile. For example, pipes used
underground will require higher class since it has to withstand the pressure.
 Pipes with diameter 160mm and above are used for Bore. Pipes used for this purpose
are higher class profile which contain maximum thickness.

UPVC:

UPVC is used for majority of plastic pipes around the world, as it is resistant to
chemical erosion, electrically insolate and has smoother inner walls to facilitate easy water
flow. it also has a good temperature resistant as it used at various temperatures and also
presures.it is incredibly stiff, rigid and cost effective and is used in sewage lines and exterior
drainage pipes. even so some places around world prefers PVC over UPVC.
UPVC usually do not change shape under normal weather conditions, but can be
reshaped at very high temperatures. UPVC are more energy efficient than those of wooden or
metal frames. neither PVC nor UPVC are biodegradable. however, UPVC can be recycled by
grinding the pipe and using it as raw materials in making another UPVC pipe, but the quality
of the pipe decreases drastically and can be used in limited purposes.

16
The classification of UPVC (unplasticized Poly vinyl chloride) pipes are as follows.

Profile of Pipe Pressure rating

Class-1 0.25MPa

Class-2 0.4MPa

Class-3 0.6MPa

Class-4 0.8MPa

Class-5 1.0MPa

CHAPTER 2

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

18
ORGANIZATION CHART- DESIGN AND STRUCTURE

 Organization structure defines how tasks are allocated, who reports to whom, and the
formal coordinating mechanisms and interaction patterns that will be followed.
Organization structures are becoming increasingly short-lived and unstable. The
“Classical” Organization structures of the 1920s and 1930s stood for decades without
needing more than an occasional touching up. Today, however, a company no sooner
finishes a major job of reorganizing itself, it starts all over again.

 The right organization structure is not performance itself, but rather a prerequisite of
performance. The wrong structure is indeed a guarantee for non-performance; it
produces friction and frustration and puts spotlight on the wrong issues and makes
mountains out of trivia. But perfect organization is like perfect health. In the traditional

19
context managers had to learn that organization design and organization structures
deserve attention, thinking and hard work. But today almost everyone accepts this. The
design of organization structure is a critical task to the top management of an
organization. It refers to the selection of whole organization edifice.

Advantages of functional organisation structure:

 Every functional incharge is an expert in his area and can help the subordinate to
perform better in his area.
 it creates a high degree of efficiency as the groups of employees and the functional
heads perform their Limited and specialized operations.
 The expert knowledge of the functional managers facilitates better control and
supervision in the Enterprise.

The company totally has Functional departments:

 Purchase department
 Production department
 store department
 Sales department
 Collection and Billing department
 Finance department
 HR department
 Admistration department.

22
Manpower Management:
This unit has 6 supervisors and 70 workers, day and night shifts combined. Out of
the 70, 50 workers and 3 supervisors work in the morning and 20 workers with one
supervisor work in the night. every week they will reschedule the workers shift. Remaining
two supervisors will take care of security services and logistics. The logistics have 3 units,
one-unit deals with the raw materials for the industry and the other two deal with
transportation of pipes to their dealers and customers.

CHAPTER 4

SWOT ANALYSIS

24
 SWOT ANALYSIS:

SWOT Analysis is a process that identifies an organization’s strengths, weaknesses,

opportunities and threats. Specifically, SWOT is a basic, analytical framework that assesses
what an entity can or cannot do, for factors both internal (the strengths and the weaknesses) as
well as external (the opportunities and the threats). Using environmental data to evaluate the
position of the company, a SWOT analysis determines what assists the firm in accomplishing
its objectives, and what obstacles must be overcome or minimized to achieve desired results,
where the organization is today, and where it may be in the future.

 Strengths describe what an organization excels at and separates it from the

competition, things like a strong brand, loyal customer base, strong balance sheet,
unique technology and so on.
 Weaknesses stop an organization from performing at its optimum level. They are
the areas where the business needs to change things to be competitive, things like
higher than industry average turnover, high levels of debt, an inadequate supply chain
or lack of capital.
 Opportunities refer to favorable external factors that an organization can use to
give itself a competitive advantage.
 Threats refer to the factors that have the potential to harm an organization. It
includes things like rising cost of inputs, increasing competition, tight labour supply
and so on.

25
Strengths:
 The manufacturing unit is located near to national highway making transportation
easy.
 The water level in ground is decreasing every year, so they require more quantity of
PVC pipes to dig a hole that reaches the ground water level (demand increases every
year).
Quality of the pipe.

Weaknesses:

 Managing Man-power is a huge task, even though they have 4 supervisors I saw
some difficulties they go through in managing right amount of people at right time.
 More absents of employees.

Opportunities:
 There will always be several indents (government projects) orders with government
officials, for example, RWS (rural water supply) officials. If we get to know them and
build a good business relationship, they will provide a good amount of orders.
 Poly vinyl chloride pipes are necessary for any construction or irrigation needs.
 Every 6-7 months farmers tend to change the water pipe lines, especially in aqua
culture.

Threats:
 Some districts like kolar have rocky terrain, so we cannot use PVC pipes to dig up a
hole for ground water.
 Some contractors will prefer scrap (waste generated while making a pipe) pipes for
constructions to reduce their construction cost.

26
CHAPTER 5
