Reaction Paper for the 32nd SCUAA NCR Games

Some of us agree that college

won’t be completed or won’t be fun if

there is no sports competition. In the

world of college sports, UAAP is the most

popular association for the college sports

but there’s what they call “State Colleges

and Universities Athletic Association” or simply, SCUAA. While it has 93 members all over the

country, it has seven participating schools in NCR alone. This year is the 32nd SCUAA NCR

games. The 7 participants are: Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology

(EARIST), Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC), Philippine Normal University (PNU) that is also

the host school, Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA), Polytechnic University of the

Philippines (PUP), Rizal Technological

University (RTU), and Technological

University of the Philippines (TUP).

I, together with some of my

classmates, went first to the swimming

competition since it is Wednesday, no

classes and the available schedule for us. It

was held on the PUP-Manila main

campus. When we arrived at the

competition area, it has already started. I

have no idea and background about the

swimming competitions, but I enjoyed

watching the participants doing their best just to reach the other side of the pool. I admire those

participants that even though all of the other participants have already finished, they still manage

to swim passionately as if they still have other competitors. It is my first time watching swimming

competition so I am surprised that there are many types of strokes and swims in that competition.

Back stroke swim was really amazing to watch since I am not a good swimmer, watching them

swim very long and fast in backstroke was really incredible.

However, I am not satisfied for

watching only a game in SCUAA.

So we went to the University of the

East-Caloocan to watch a game for

Beach Volleyball on the day after

the swimming competition which

was Thursday. We had an opportunity to watch games because many of our professors canceled

our classes because of Engineering Week so we took that opportunity and went to UE to watch

games. At first, I am confused on how come they will host beach volleyball when there is no beach

at Caloocan. Until we came into the school and saw a beach-like field containing sand so that it is

like a beach. It is my first time to watch live a beach volleyball and it was very new to me since a

common volleyball games consist of 6 players but in this beach volleyball, it was 2 versus 2 game
so it was very intense and very

marvelous to watch. I really enjoyed

the championship game for girls

between PUP and RTU. Of course, I

cheered for PUP, but I never

expected that the game would be so extreme. In the first set, PUP dominates RTU with the score,

21-14, so I am confident that PUP will take the win easily. However, RTU bounces back and got

the second set, 21-13. Third set came and it was really intense, the set was up to 15 only but

because of many deuces, it reached to the score of 21-19, sadly, in favor of RTU.

All in all, my experience in watching SCUAA games were really great and enjoying. I have fun

with my friends as well as cheering our school. I learned two things, first is you must not give up

in a race because each of us has their own capabilities and strengths so being first is not important,

but the most important is to finish it on your own. Second is to not expect things early because

there are unexpected things that might happen. Celebrate when you already get what you are

expecting.
