Pianist Clement Acevedo from Roxas City, Capiz has performed in the United States, China,
and the Philippines, in venues such as Merkin Hall in New York and the Cultural Center of the
Philippines. He won First Prize in the 2004 National Music Competitions for Young Artists
(NAMCYA), Piano Category C, and was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Heida Hermanns
International Piano Competition. He has been a featured soloist with the Metro Manila Concert
Orchestra, UST Symphony Orchestra, and James Madison University Symphony Orchestra. An
enthusiastic chamber musician, he has been invited to perform in professional music festivals,
such as the Staunton Music Festival, where he performed Chester Biscardi’s Traverso with Mary
Boodell, principal flutist of the Richmond Symphony; the composer, who was present, hailed the
performance as “beautiful and poetic.” At the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, he performed
with Daniel Lichti, one of Canada’s finest bass baritones. At the Chopin Symposium in Weston,
MA, he performed with renowned pianists Andrew Tyson and Gila Goldstein. At the Forbes
Performing Arts Center, he performed with Charles Ullery, principal bassoonist of The Saint Paul
Chamber Orchestra. He enjoys four/eight-hand repertoire and has performed with Heini
Kärkkäinen, Carsten Schmidt, Raul Sunico, and composer-pianist Moritz Eggert. He has played
for the voice studios of Grammy nominee baritone Randall Scarlata and Grammy award-winning
baritone Kevin McMillan. He has served as rehearsal and performance pianist for full
productions of La bohème (Puccini), Cendrillon (Massenet), and Così fan tutte (Mozart), among
others.
Dr. Acevedo was consistently awarded full scholarships/assistantships/fellowships at the
University of the Philippines (BM Piano Performance), Temple University (MM Piano
Performance), West Chester University of Pennsylvania (MM Piano Pedagogy), and James
Madison University (DMA Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature – Piano). He served as the
president-elect of Harrisonburg Music Teachers’ Association, a 40-member chapter of the MTNA
in the United States. He is currently the vice-president of PTGP Panay Chapter. He is the director
of the Jovita Fuentes and Jose Contreras (JFJC) Music Institute, a 5-day program of song and
piano repertoire, masterclasses and concerts.
At Temple he studied with eminent pedagogue Harvey Wedeen. At the Brandywine International
Piano Institute, he was one of five pianists chosen to participate in the piano class of renowned
pedagogue Anthony di Bonaventura. He has played in masterclasses by renowned pianists
including Malcolm Bilson, Dorothy Taubman, Roberto Poli, Jeffrey Siegel, Yuan Sheng, Ya Fei
Chuang, and Jose Maceda. His other piano teachers include Gabriel Dobner, Igor Resnianski,
Carl Cranmer, Ariel Dechosa, Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, Augusto Espino, and Felicitas Roldan.
He is an associate professor and the director of the Center for Heritage and Indigenous Cultures
(CHIC) at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. Previously, he was piano professor at
Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA.
