his sultanate reached tawi-
tawi, Palawan Basilan and
other parts of Zamboanga.
 Mohammed Kabungsuan (1515)
• Arrived from Johore and
established community in
Maguindanao.
• But then, There is a belief that Islam came to Manila
under the leadership of the sultanate of Brunei.
• A powerful Muslim
settlement was
established in the western
coast of Borneo (Brunei)
around 1400, which is the
most primitive inhabitants
like Dyaks, were defeated
as the spaniards arrived in
the Philippines.
• Muslim population in Mindanao dominantly is
from the colony found in Borneo, in which
Maguindanao and Illanons, the primitive tribes
in the southern part of Mindanao with the
Manobo and Tiruray who were coverted to
Islam by the Malay and the Arab proselyters.
• Islam is still Increasing even when the Spaniards
arrived. They already got a foothold in Manila
bay, but they were drawn away by the spaniards
that made them no choice but to just go away.
Muslims are the mortal enemy of Spaniards
because Spain was conquered by the Ummayad
Caliphate under General Tariq Bin Ziyad around
711 CE, and that was the reason why Spaniards
were so aggressive in puting out the light of
Islam.
• The Spaniards call Muslims as “moors” or “moros”, the
ancient foes that crossed into spain from Morocco.
