A long time ago, there lived on the island of Bali a giant-like creature named Kebo Iwo. The people of
Bali used to say that Kebo Iwo was everything, a destroyer as well as a creator. He was satisfied with
the meal, but this meant for the Balinese people enough food for a thousand men.

Difficulties arose when for the first time the barns were almost empty and the new harvest was still a
long way off. This made Kebo Iwo wild with great anger. In his hunger, he destroyed all the houses
and even all the temples. It made the Balinese turn to rage.

So, they came together to plan steps to oppose this powerful giant by using his stupidity. They asked
Kebo Iwo to build them a very deep well, and rebuild all the houses and temples he had
destroyed. After they fed Kbo Iwo, he began to dig a deep hole.

One day he had eaten too much, he fell asleep in the hole. The oldest man in the village gave a sign,
and the villagers began to throw the limestone they had collected before into the hole. The limestone
made the water inside the hole boiling . Kbo Iwo was buried alive. Then the water in the well rose

well by Kebo Iwo is known as Mount Batur.

the convention in the revision of the 2004 Law on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers," Daniel

Skateboards
Skateboards are sport equipment used for the activity of skateboarding. A skateboard consists of a
specially designed maple wood board combined with a polyurethane coating in order to have smoother
slides and stronger durability. Most skateboards are made with 7 plies of this wood.

Many skateboards exist with exotic or alternative constructions. Traditional complete skateboards consist
of the deck (often with grip tape applied on top to enhance traction), trucks (with urethane bushings),
wheels (with sealed bearings), nuts, and bolts to fasten the truck and wheel assembly to the bottom of the
deck. Recently, electric skateboards have appeared. These no longer require the propelling of the
skateboard by means of the feel; rather an electric motor propels the board, fed by an electric battery.

The board types depend largely upon its desired function. The two common types of skateboards are the
longboard and the shortboard. Longboards are the type of skateboards with longer wheelbases (over 33
inches long) and larger, softer wheels. Shortboards are the type of skateboards which commonly have a
rectangular shape kick tail at the back and arounded nose in the front. They are usually less than 34
inches long. Besides, longboards are usually faster and are mostly used for cruising and racing, while
shortboards are mostly used for doing tricks.

There is no best way to deal with pests in agriculture. Pesticides which are commonly used may cause
many problems. I think combining different management operations is the most effective way to control
pests.

Firstly, the chemicals in the pesticides may build up as residues in the environment and in the soil
which absorbs the chemicals. This reduces the quality of farm product.

Secondly, pests can gradually become resistant to pesticides. This means that newer and stronger ones
have to be developed.
Lastly, some pesticides affect non target plants and animals such as fish and bees. This effects thc
ecology and environment as well,

So, understanding of ecology of an area helps a lot in pest control. Pesticides should be chosen end
applied carefully so that they don't affect the ecological balance and environment.

Therefore, integrated pest management is a safe and more effective option to fight pest in agriculture and
livestock.

Double hand transplant carried out in the UK for first time

For the first time in the UK, a person has received a double hand transplant. Chris King lost both his hands,
except his thumbs, in a work accident involving a metal pressing machine three years ago. He has now been
given two hands from a donor — an operation that took eight surgeons 12 hours to complete.

Around 80 hand transplants have been performed worldwide, including one previous operation in the UK.
The surgery involves joining the recipient arm and donor hand bones together using titanium plates and
screws, before connecting tendons, muscles, blood vessels and nerves.

“They look absolutely tremendous,” said King. “They’re my hands. They are really my hands. My blood's
going through them. My tendons are attached. They’re mine.”

Simon Kay led the surgical team at Leeds General Infirmary, and has a waiting list of four other people
hoping for hand transplants. When any further operations will take place will depend on the availability of
donor hands. “Because hand transplantation is such an unusual thing, people have been slow to donate,” said
Kay.

There is no option to donate limbs on the NHS Organ Donation Register, so for each operation specific
permission is sought from the families of potential donors after their death. “It’s extraordinarily difficult to
ask and extraordinarily difficult to make that decision,” said Kay.

When choosing a match, the main focus is on blood group, skin tone and hand size. But due to the complex
nature of the procedure, recipients are also screened for psychological suitability before undergoing the
operation.

Acid rain is rain that is highly acidic because of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and other air pollutants
dissolved in it. Normal rain is slightly acidic, with a pH of 6. Acid rain may have a pH value as low as
2.8

Acid rain can severely damage both plant and animal life. Certain lakes, for example, have lost all fish
and plant life because of acid rain.

Acid rain comes from sulfur in coal and oil. When they burn, they make sulfur dioxide (SO2 ). Most
sulfur leaves factory chimneys as the gaseous sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) and most nitrogen are also emitted as
one of the nitrogen oxides (NO or NO2 ), both of which are gasses.
The gasses may be dry deposited–absorbed directly by the land, by lakes or by the surface vegetation. If
they are in the atmosphere at any time, the gasses will oxidize (gain an oxygen atom) and go into
solution as acids. Sulphuric acid (H2 SO4 ) and the nitrogen oxides will become nitric acid (HNO3 ).
The acids usually dissolve in cloud droplets and may travel great distances before being precipitated as
acid rain.

Catalysts such as hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and ammonium help promote the formation of acids in
clouds. More ammonium (NH4) can be formed when some of the acids are partially neutralized by
airborne ammonia (NH3). Acidification increases with the number of active hydrogen (H+) ions
dissolved in acid. Hydrocarbons emitted by, for example, car exhausts will react in sunlight with
nitrogen oxides to produce ozone. Although it is invaluable in the atmosphere, low-level ozone causes
respiratory problems and also hastens the formation of acid rain. When acid rain falls on the ground it
dissolves and liberates heavy metals and aluminum (Al). When it is washed into lakes, aluminum
irritates the outer surfaces of many fish. As acid rain falls or drains into the lake the pH of the lake falls.
Forests suffer the effect of acid rain through damage to leaves, through the loss of vital nutrients, and
through the increased amounts of toxic metals liberated by acid, which damage roots and soil
microorganisms.

27. The third paragraph tells about ….

A. acid rain damages environment
B. how acid rain endangers life
C. how acid rain occurs
D. the cause of acid rain
E. the acid rain cause

28. What is the result of the burning of the coal and oil?
A. ammonium
B. nitric acid
C. sulphuric acid
D. sulfur dioxide
E. airborne ammonia

29. “… Acid rain can severely damage both plant and animal life… “. The bold word has the closest
meaning to ….
A. harm
B. hang
C. endow
D. produce
E. develop

Male chauvinism (men's believe in male superiority) extends even into the area of automobile driving, it
seems. They believe that they are far better drivers than women. Men consider women drivers
incompetent, inattentive and even dangerous behind the wheel.

However, statistics prove that women are, in fact, safer drivers than men. For example, insurance rates
for women are 20 percent than they are for men. Another proof is that more accidents are caused by male
drivers between the ages of 18 and 25 than by any other groups. Also the greater percentage of accident
involving death is caused by men. Although women are criticized for being too cautious, they are really
just being safe drivers.

The reason for women driver's safer habits can perhaps be found in the differing attitudes of sexes
toward automobiles as a convenience, like a washing machine.

On the other hand, men regard the automobile as an extension of their egos. Using it as a weapon when
they feel particularly aggressive or using it as a status symbol.

In all, women are safer drivers because of their attitude. Men can learn to become safe drivers if they
adopt the attitude that an automobile is merely a convenience.

A. men are higher than those of women
B. men are lower than that of women
C. men are as high as that of women
D. women are equal to that of men

THE PRINCESS DIARIES

Meg Cabot
Harper Collins
Young Adult
ISBN: 0380814021
304 pages

As the hilariously funny tale called The Princess Diaries begins, Mia Thermopolis is just a regular high
school freshman at Albert Einstein High School. Well, as regular as you can be when you live in a loft in
downtown New York with your flighty artist Mom. And as regular as you can be when your best friend
is Lilly, a punky and spunky militant who produces her ownTV show.

As readers can guess from the title, this book takes the form of a diary, written by Mia. Over the pan of
a month, she relates her daily woes and embarrassments in heart breaking detail. As with most teenaged
girls, Mia thinks she is hopeless, looks-wise. She's tall --- 5’9" --- and klutzy, and not so gifted in the
chest department.

Then there is school. One of Mia’s biggest problems is the fact she is flunking Algebra and, to make
matters worse, her Mom has begun dating her teacher. Gross.

In the boy department, the cutest one in school has the locker next to hers, but doesn't even know Mia
exists, even as his snooty girlfriend Lana, a popular cheerleader, torments her. And to top it off, Mia is
developing some sort of weird crush on Michael, Lilly’s computer nerd brother.

Then one day, Mia finds out she is a princess. Okay, I know that doesn’t sound bad to most girls, but
Mia hates the idea instantly. How does this fairy tale come true? Her father is ruler of the principality of
Genovia and since Mia is his only child, she is next in line to the throne. Her dad sends in the big guns to
convince Mia that being a princess is what she is meant to do: her formidable grandmother comes to
New York to give Mia "Princess Lessons". And as the word spreads around Albert Einstein High School
that Mia is royalty, her life just gets more crazy.

The ending of The Princess Diaries is a twisty one and will leave you jonesing for more stories of Mia
and the rest of her friends.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS

Captain Phillips is an upcoming 2013 American biographical action thriller film directed by Paul
Greengrass based upon the book, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous days at
Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Tatty, and starring Tom Hanks. It is produced by Scott Rudin,
Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca. The film tells a biopic of merchant mariner Captain Richard
Phillips, who was taken hostage for several days by Somali Pirates when the container ship Maersk
Alabama which sailed from southern Oman drown along the coast of Somalia and then to Kenya was
hijacked in 2009.

Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), a veteran merchant mariner, still lives in his native New England,
and he's a plainspoken family man full of anxiety about the economically bleak new world his kids are
facing. When his wife (Chaterine Keener) drops him off at the airport, we can see reverse her. The film
then cuts to Somalia, a land of dust and poverty, where the pirates are recruited for their mission as if
they were migrant farm workers lining up to be chosen for that day's labor. Greengrass doesn't have to
fill in much about the violent, chaotic breakdown of Somalia to let us know that these men have little
choice.

The film does not generate quite the same level of excruciating suspense as some of Greengrass' previous
triumphs, but it nonetheless holds us hostage as it proceeds. As for the four Somali immigrants, they are
remarkably effective in their first professional acting gigs.

Animals should not be used in circus. The environment where they perform and their living conditions are
usually inappropriate. Tigers, for example which naturally live in wilderness, must perform tricks on a

Besides, the living conditions of the circus animals are poor. They live in a cramped condition most of the
