ACTIVITIES IS VERY ESSENTIAL FOR EVERY ENGINEER MANAGER. ORGANIZING IS THE FUNCTION
THAT ENGINEER MANAGERS UNDERTAKE TO DESIGN, STRUCTURE, AND ARRANGE THE
COMPONENTS OF AN ORGANIZATION’S INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT TO FACILITATE ATTAINMENT OF
ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS. EVEN TODAY, SKILLS IN ORGANIZING CONTRIBUTE LARGERLY TO THE
ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF MANY ORGANIZATION, WHETHER THEY WERE
PRIVATE BUSINESS OR OTHERWISE.
ORGANIZING IS THE FUNCTION OF MANAGEMENT WHICH FOLLOWS PLANNING. IT IS THE
PROCESS OF ESTABLISHING ORDERLY USES FOR ALL RESOURCES WITHIN THE MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM OF THE ORGANIZATION. IT IS A FUNCTION IN WHICH THE SYNCHRONIZATION AND
COMBINATION OF HUMAN, PHYSICAL, FINANCIAL, AND INFORMATION RESOURCES TAKES PLACE
FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE RESULTS. ORGANIZING FUNCTION IS ESSENTIAL BECAUSE IT
FACILITATES ADMINISTRATION AS WELL AS THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANIZATION.
ORGANIZING CREATES THE FRAMEWORK NEEDED TO REACH A COMPANY'S OBJECTIVES AND
GOALS. ORGANIZING ENSURES EFFECTIVE ROLE-JOB-FIT FOR EVERY EMPLOYEE IN THE
ORGANIZATION. IT HELPS IN AVOIDING CONFUSION AND DELAYS, AS WELL AS DUPLICATION OF
WORK AND OVERLAPPING OF EFFORT. THE ARRANGEMENT OR RELATIONSHIP OF POSITION
WITHIN AN ORGANIZATION IS CALLED STRUCTURE. STRUCTURES DEFINES THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN TASKS AND AUTHORITIESFOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL AND DEPARTMENTS. IT ALSO
DEFINES FORMAL REPORTING RELATIOSHIPS, GROUPINGS OF INDIVIDUALS INTO DEPARTMENTS
INTO ORGANIZATION AND SYSTEM TO EFFECT COORDINATION OF EFFORT IN BOTH VERTICAL
(AUTHORITY) AND HORIZONTAL (TASK) DIRECTION. THE ENGINEER MANAGER IS CONCERNED
WITH THE DIVISION OR LABOR, DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY, DEPARTMENTATION, AND
COORDINATION INSIDE THE ORGANIZATION. MANAGEMENT WILL PROCEED TO FORM AN
ORGANIZATION AFTER A PLAN TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITIES THERE. THE FORMAL
ORGANIZATION IS THE STRUCTURE THAT GIVES MORE DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES,
AUTHORITIES AND POSITIONS. THE FORMAL STRUCTURE IS DESCRIBE THROUGH
OORGANIZATIONAL CHART, ORGANIZATIONAL MANUAL, AND POLICY MANUALS BY
MANAGEMENT.THE ORGANIZATIONAL CHART IS THE DIAGRAM OF THE ORGANIZATION’S
OFFICIAL POSITION WHILE THE ORGANIZATIONAL MANUAL PROVIDES WRITTEN DESCRIPTIONS
OF AUTHORITY RELATIONSHIP AND FUNCTIONS OF EACH UNIT. MEANWHILE THERE WERE
GROUPS FORM BECAUSE OF FRIENDSHIP FOR BELONGING IS CALLED INFORMAL GROUPS.
ORGANIZATION CAN BE CLASSIFIED INTO THREE TYPES. THE FUNCTIONAL
ORGANIZATION, PRODUCT OR MARKET ORGANIZATION, AND MATRIX ORGANIZATION. THE
FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION IS WHERE EVERYONE IS ENGAGED INTO ONE FUNCTIONAL
ACTIVITY. PRODUCT OR MARKET ORGANIZATION REFERS TO THE ORGANIZATION OF THE
COMPANY BY DIVISION THAT BRINGS TOGETHER ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN ONE PARTICULAR
TYPE OF FUNCTION, PRODUCT OR CUSTOMER. AND MATRIX ORGANIZATION IS WHERE AN
EMPLOYEE REPORTS TO BOTH DIVISION MANAGER AND PROJECT OR GROUP MANAGER.
