Our Last

As far as fieldtrips go, this was the least I looked forward to. The itineraries screamed boring
and I thought that this wasn’t going to be really memorable for our last fieldtrip together as a class.
But things don’t always go the way you thought it would.

October 21, 2017, we held our educational fieldtrip. Like usual, we gathered really early in
the morning. But unlike before, we were already seated in our respective buses before everyone was
present. We did the usual morning routine; prayers, greetings, and a few announcements on what’s
to come.

Around 8.a.m, we arrived at our first destination, the Upside Down Museum. It sounded
fascinating and everything really was upside-down. The pictures we took looked like they came out
of a storybook, everything looked so surreal. Though the place was small, it was fun. We spent about
an hour and a half in the museum before heading out to our next stop.

The Cultural Centre of the Philippines was our next stop. There, we were scheduled to watch
a play entitled “Ang Pag-uusig - The Crucible” by Arthur Miller and directed by Dennis Marasigan. We
were all expecting the play to be boring but as soon as it started, all eyes were on the actors on the
stage. The play started at 10.a.m and lasted more than 2 hours. It talked about how the powerful
uses the law to condemn the innocent. Though the ending was a cliff-hanger, I’d like to think they
did it on purpose to keep the audience stuck on the play. Afterwards, we explored the music
museum also located in the CCP.

On the way to our next destination, we had our lunch on the bus. Our unspoken rule of
sharing our food with each other made lunch even more enjoyable. The next destination was the
National Art Museum. There, we briefly viewed the different paintings and sculptures of different
artists. Then, we proceeded to the Masters’ Hall which was my favourite part of the museum.
Located in the Masters’ Hall are the works of world renowned artists like Juan Luna. The Spoliarium
was introduced to us by a staff, she continued by telling us the backstory of the painting, what it
means, and trivias about it. Then once again we roamed around the museum before heading to our
final stop.

Our last stop, Mall of Asia, was our most awaited one. We were given until 7.p.m to roam
free in the mall. We tried to ask for an extension but to no avail. Nevertheless, everyone spent their
time in MOA doing what they want, leaving no regrets. For me, we shopped, ice-skated, and rode a
few of the rides outside the mall. Our time in MOA was enjoyable because of the many firsts we
experienced together. When it was time, we met up, and went home.

This year’s educational fieldtrip can only be described as unexpected. We never expected it
to be as enjoyable as it was. We never expected to have fun. We never expected it to be worth it.
Though the itineraries this year was unexpectedly boring, we had fun because we were together.
