Script for "Industrial Revolution" Presentation

Good afternoon everyone. We’re Pau, Pau, and Àlex, and we’re here
to talk to you about a time period which revolutionized the course of the
human race and industrialization forever.
Before we begin, we’ll give you a walk through the different topics
we’ll be diving into throughout the presentations. For starters, we’ll briefly
go over what exactly the industrial revolution is, as well as where, when
and how it started, the consequences. After that, we’ll explain the
consequences that it had on the different aspects of society: life quality,
health, work… Next, we’ll break it down and explain the four different
stages, or the four different industrial revolutions. Lastly, we’ll take a look at
the bigger picture of how it all has changed the world since.
The Industrial Revolution was the switch from human strength to
machine automation in the production of products and services. It began in
the 18th century in England, with the invention of the steam machine, a
product of James Watt’s ingenuity. He invented this machine in order to
solve the inefficiency issue of the equivalent previous machine. Other
causes involved the Agricultural Revolution, the rise of capitalism and
imperialism.
The consequences were immediate and changed the course of
humankind forever. For starters, it caused urbanization. People living on
farms and in the countryside saw the new job opportunities in the city and
industrialized areas, leaving their current situations behind hoping for better
paid jobs and living conditions in the booming, urban areas. This wasn’t the
case initially, where long working hours and dirty, unhealthy, unhygienic
lifestyles had quickly become the norm.
However, with time, this changed. Riots and worker-right activist
movements achieved better conditions and more equality. With these
improvements, the relationship between bosses and the workers increased
significantly. In other words, the final consequence was an improvement in
life conditions and rights for the working class. Another notable
consequence was an upgrade in transport, especially the train. Lastly, the
middle and working class could now work their way up to the higher class,
giving them a lot more power than before.
Now we’ll explain the four different industrial revolutions. The first
industrial revolution was the one we just mentioned, taking place in the late
18th century. The next industrial revolution took place in the late 19th
century, with the rise of mass production, the assembly line and electrical
energy. In the late 20th century, with the invention of electronics such as
computers, and automation, the third industrial revolution took place. We
are currently experiencing the fourth industrial revolution, with the rise of
the Internet and Cyber Physical Systems.
The world has changed drastically since then. For starters, life
expectancy has sky-rocketed. GDP per capita has also increased very
significantly, and the number of people living in absolute poverty has
decreased a lot, especially considering that the world population has done
exactly the opposite.
Thankyou for your time.
