The Suramadu Bridge), also known as the Surabaya–Madura Bridge, is a bridge with three cable-stayed

sections constructed between Surabaya on the island of Java and the town of Bangkalan on the island of
Madura in IndonesiA. Opened on June 10, 2009, the 5.4-km bridge is the longest in Indonesia and the
first bridge to cross the Madura Strait.
The cable-stayed portion has three spans with lengths 192 m, 434 m and 192 m. The bridge has two
lanes in each direction plus an emergency lane and a dedicated lane for motorcycles. The first toll bridge
in Indonesia, fares have been initially set at Rp. 30,000 (US$3 in 2009) for four-wheeled vehicles and Rp.
3,000 (US$0.30) for two-wheelers.
The bridge was built by a consortium of Indonesian companies PT AdhiKarya and PT WaskitaKarya
working with China Road and Bridge Corp. and China Harbor Engineering Co. LtD. The total cost of the
project, including connecting roads, has been estimated at 4.5 trillion rupiah (US$445 million).
Construction was started on August 20, 2003. In July 2004, a girder collapsed, killing one worker and
injuring nine others. Work on the bridge halted at the end of 2004 due to lack of funds, but was
restarted in November 2005. The main span of the bridge was connected on March 31, 2009, and the
bridge was opened to the public in June 10, 2009.Within a week of the opening, it was discovered that
nuts and bolts as well as maintenance lamps had been stolen and that there was evidence of vandalism

School uniform is special clothes worn by all students of a particular school. The uniform of a school may
differ from others. Why should schools use uniforms? Below are some reasons.

First of all, Notre Dame’s Department of Sociology produced a study in 1998 concerning school
uniforms. Their findings using 10th grade students showed that uniforms have no direct effect on
“substance abuse, behavioral problems or attendance.” It also claimed a negative effect on student
achievements for those students considered ‘pro-school’.

Secondly, uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging to a particular
community. As such it promotes discipline and helps to drive up academic standards, which is why a
uniform is often adopted by schools which are being reopened with a fresh start after being classified as
failing.

Finally, uniform acts as a social leveler, under which all students are equal in the eyes of the school and
of each other. In institutions without uniform students are often competitive and worry endlessly about
their appearance and the clothes they should wear. Pupils without expensive designer clothes and
trainers may be singled out as social outcasts, or stigmatized as being from poor backgrounds. For these
reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they save them money on buying clothes for school wear.
Considering the findings, schools should implement the uniform as their identity. The government
should also publish some kind of rule which makes uniform compulsory for schools.

Cristiano Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. Manchester United paid
£12 million to sign him in 2003 – a record fee for a player of his age. In the 2004 FA Cup Final, he scored
Manchester’s first three goals and helped them capture the championship. In 2008, he set a franchise
record for goals scored. In 2009, Real Madrid paid a record $131 million for his service.

It was through his dad’s work as an equipment manager at a boy’s club that Ronaldo was first
introduced to the game of soccer. By the time he was 10 years old, he was already recognized as a
phenomenon – a kid who ate, slept and drank the game. “All he wanted to do as a boy was playing
football,” his godfather, Fernao Sousa, recalled for British reporters, adding, “He loved the game so
much that he’d miss meals or escape out his bedroom window with a ball when he was supposed to be
doing his homework.”
By his early teens, Ronaldo’s talent and legend had grown considerably. After a stint with Nacional da
liha da Madeira, he signed with Sporting Portugal in 2001. That same year, at the tender age of 16,
Ronaldo turned heads with a impressing performance against Manchester United, wowing even his
opponents with his footwork and deft skill. He made such an impression that a number of United players
asked their manager to try and sign the young player. It wasn’t long before the club paid Ronaldo’s team

Venice is a city in northern Italy. It has been known as the “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Bridges”, and
“The City of Light”. The city stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the
Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy.

Venice is world famous for its canals. It is built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by about 150
canals in a shallow lagoon. The islands on which the city is built are connected by about 400 bridges. In
the old centre, the canals serve the function of roads, and every form of transport is on water or on
foot.

You can ride gondola there. It is the classical Venetian boat which nowadays is mostly used for tourists,
or weddings, funerals, or other ceremonies. Now, most Venetians travel by motorised waterbuses which
ply regular routes along the major canals and between the city’s islands. The city has many private
