H. Definition of Terms 1. Endophytes (fungi and bacteria): According to hindawi.com, endophytes are organisms that live
between living plant cells. In the process of accumulation of heavy metal in this study, Endophytes degrade and remove the
toxicity of the heavy metals accumulated by the plant.; thus, helping the researchers to determine the effectiveness of the
Pagatpat as an accumulator. 2. Heavy Metals: Heavy Metals are dense metals that can't be created nor destroyed. In this
study, Heavy Metals are the key components in the wet land of LPPCHEA.The researchers would like to investigate the
effectiveness of Pagatpat plant in accumulating the heavy metals through testing the roots of the plants. 3. LPPCHEA (Las
Pinas- Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area): According to DENR-NCR, LPPCHEA is a protected environmental area
in south of Manila Bay. In this study, LPPCHEA would play a vital role in becoming the main location of the study in which we
are to gather the needed information such as the amount of heavy metals that can be accumulated by the Pagatpat plant. 4.
Mangrove: Mangroves are swampy place where trees and shrubs grow. In this study, samples and data needed by the
researchers would be coming from the mangrove area of the LPPCHEA. 5. Pagatpat (Sonneratia caseolaris): Pagatpat is a tree
that grows on mangroves that are mostly used for furniture and constructions. In this study, the Pagatpat plant would be
examined to find out if it has a key component of becoming a phytoaccumulator that would be beneficial for it helps
remediate contaminants in water and soil. 6. Phytoaccumulator or Hyperaccumulator: According to yourdictionary,
photoaccumulator is where plants accumulate to remove the contaminants in soil and water. In this study, we are to test the
effectiveness of a Pagatpat plant on its capability to be a phytoaccumulator.
