Reflection Essay for GS

During this course, through readings of various topics as well as activities and discussions
discussed in class, I influenced my perception of sex and gender. In fact, the cross-cultural aspect of sex
and gender allowed me to interact with my previous gender and human sexuality beliefs. For the
purpose of this essay, I would like to explore how women and men perceive their sex and sexuality in my
understanding of different cultures.

I've learned from all the readings that there are still multiple challenges of gender equality.
Understanding how to deal with the problem has not always been made clear, but I only understood
reading from my classmates’ comment that it all starts with the attitudes of people towards the other
gender. When one sex didn't feel they're stronger than the other, fixing this problem wouldn't be such a
battle. It's great to see the authors writing techniques are non-attack-like and more informative as well
as inspiring, that's why I enjoyed those readings in the book. Those class discussions and lectures also
helped me to think more critically rather than emotionally. Of reality, I don't believe there is gender
inequality in every workforce, so it's not fair to say that every company has done it. Everybody wants to
be on an equal playing field and this conversation really encouraged me to see how everybody sees this
kind of topic of equality. Most reports and visual aids that are used fight gender inequality.

In summary of my learning in this class, there is still gender inequality in our culture. While steps
are being taken to help this problem, to really change it, we as a culture should stop teaching our
younger generation that treating the other gender less is okay. This applies to women and men of any
age, race or religion. Articles, protests and educational awareness can only change so much, then the
problem will always be there without changing the views of society. It may be special for everyone to do
their part when they have kids to help them appreciate the picture, but inside we're all the same. It will
bring nothing but positive results to treat each gender with respect and equality.

For our teacher, I am so grateful for being a mother figure to us because she always understands
the stress and pressure we carry. She keeps reminding us in her motivational speech to push hard in life
despite of the problems that we face. That no matter how big the problems are, don’t forget to pray
because our faith for the Lord is much bigger. Since my first in Velez College, I always thought that all
the teachers there are terror, not until Ms. Nacional became our teacher, which was a blessing to us.
This may be the last Ms. Nacional will handle us, I just want to say that thank you for everything you
have done to us and that you’re one of my favorite teachers because Miss is a blessing to OT-1A.
