CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS
1. Open to singers & accompanists of all ages
domiciled in Australia. Singers may only perform
once in the heats, accompanists may perform
multiple times
2. Secondary School Students – one Lied
Singer 25 years and under – 10 minute recital
programme of three or more songs.
Singer 26 years and over – 20 minute recital
programme.
Age is gauged at 18th April 2020
3. All Lieder must have been composed using
German text and must be sung in the original
German language.
4. All Lieder must be for solo voice and piano only –
no ensemble items permitted.
5. Copies of the entire programme must be provided
for the Adjudicators and the accompanist.
Entrants are reminded of the copyright law.
The Lieder Society of Vic. accepts no
responsibility for infringement.
6. Preliminary Heats – entrants will perform one
Lied of their own choice from the submitted
programme and one or more, or part thereof, at the
Adjudicators request.
7. Eight Finalists will be chosen from the heats to
perform a recital of not more than ten minutes
from their submitted programme.
8. Entrants must confirm a contact telephone number
for Saturday evening 18th April at the time of
check-in. Finalists will be notified at the
conclusion of the heats.
9. There is no admission charge to any session of the
Liederfest for any participant.
10. Entries close Monday 30th March 2020 and may
be submitted electronically to

Guidelines for Participants
* The texts of the songs should be artistically interpreted
and delivered with clarity and careful attention to
language and meaning.
* There should be excellent rapport between singer and
accompanist.
* Accurate representation of the composer’s score is
important.
* Vocal production should be unforced and well
supported.
* Intonation should be accurate.
* Performance should be from memory.
* The chosen repertoire should lie comfortably within the
performer’s capabilities (ie suitable range and appropriate
technical skills)
* The performer should engage the audience (ie
convincing communication)
