RULES

International Percussion Competitions:

17th International Vibraphone Competition


8th International Marimba Competition
8th International Marimba/Vibraphone Duos Competition

Online: 19-21st November 2021

§I
1. International Percussion Competitions called hereafter the Competitions are organised by the Artistic
Education Centre. Co-organizers are the Frederic Chopin’s Music School in Opole and the Polish
Percussive Association based in Opole, Poland.
2. Competitions will take place online on 19-21st November 2021. This means that competition will be open
to Jury, contestants and audience in a form of a live stream on the streaming platform online. Jury’s
deliberations will take place on Microsoft Teams platform
3. The purpose of the Competitions is:
 To enhance the level of teaching percussion,
 Comparison of the musical skills and levels of percussion students from all over the world,
 Pedagogical experience exchange,
 Motivating young students to master their skills by taking part in competitions,
 To give talented students the ability to present their skills for world class Jury members online,
 Promotion of talented young students,
 To enhance the interest in classical percussion instruments.
4. Competitions are open to Music School I & II degree students as well as to strudents from Music
Academies across the world but also to self taught individuals who are 12-24 years old.
Competitions are divided into two age groups:
 Group I: Ages 12 – 18 (a person born between 2009 and 20023inc.)
 Group II: Ages 19 – 24 (a person born between 2002 and 1997inc.).
Age grups are decided based on the year of birth of the contestant. In group I contestant must not turn 19
by the end of 2021; in group II the same rule apply not to turn 25 by the end of 2021.

§ II
1. Each contestant needs to fill in the application form available on the Competition website
www.psmopole.pl/drum-competitions ;
2. The application and any other communication need to be conducted in both Polish and English language.
Not addressing the condition may result in not accepting the application.
Scanned application saved as file named „VIBRAPHONE/MARIMBA/DUO-group I/II- name and
surname” must uploaded by 7th November 2021 on www.psmopole.pl/drum-competitions in tabs called:

3. For the purpose of the first stage contestants record performances, 2 pieces chosen from the list of
mandatory music. The competition repertoire is attached to this document (attachment 1).
4. In the second stage contestants record 1 or 2 music pieces lasting 12-15 minutes. Music can also be chosen
from music repertoire. Musical selections cannot be repeated from one stage to the next.
5. By 7th November 2021 each contestant of the 1st Stage of the Competition needs to upload 2 separate files
with recordings for the 1st and 2nd Stage. Files needs to be called: „VIBRAPHONE/MARIMBA/DUO-
group I/II- name and surname” Files to be uploaded by links on the website: www.psmopole.pl/drum-

6. Recording are to be made following the below conditions:
- Encrypted with one of the following formats: avi, .mpeg4, .dvd, .mov, .mpg, .ogg. etc.;
- Recording is to be sent as one file. In case of two separate files, this needs to be compressed to ZIP
format.
- Performance recorded with camera, smartphone, computer or tablet
- Recording to be taken from the contestant side, demonstrating drumming technique
- Recording to be made in a good light: day light if possible, to avoid sound clipping contestant should
not direct the sound stream to the microphone directly
- It is not allowed to alter the recording at any part.
- The responsibility for the final uploaded version of the recording is on the contestant side.
7. Contestants are required to record pieces from memory.
8. The music needs to be listed in the application form.
9. Maximum of 24 contestants from both age groups in the Marimba and Vibraphone Competition and 12
duos are qualified by the Jury based on points received in the 1st Stage. They receive finalists status.
10. In case a performance lasts longer than required mentioned in point 5, contestant may be disqualified.
11. Co-organizers have the right to cancel the Competition when not enough contestants have applied to
participate, minimum 3 contestants / 3 duos.
12. In case of a large number of applications received, the preliminaries will take place based on recorded
performances for 1st Stage.

§ III
1. The Jury is decided by the Director of the Artistic Education Centre.

2. The Competitions’ Jury will consist of outstanding musicians from Poland as well as from abroad.

3. The Jury assesses the level of performances based on sound qualities, artistic and technical skills and
musicality.In both stages the Jury assess aslo the stage presence and performance preparation. The Jury
will judge based on the points system from 1÷25.

4. The Jury members are not allowed to judge their current students as well as their relatives in the
Competition.

5. The Jury has a right to divide prizes, recognitions as they prefer.

6. The Jury has a right not to award any prize.

7. Jury’s decisions are final.

8. The Jury is represeneted by the Jury Chairman.

9. There are both financial and percussion accessory prizes for all Laureates of Compeititons in each age
group

10. All contestants will receive the Certificate of Participation.

11. The winners and awards ceremony will be announced after the 2nd stage of the Competition after The
Jury’s deliberations and decisions.

12. The list of winners / Laureates will be published online at www.psmopole.pl/drum-competitions

13. Laureates who are students in Music Schools in Poland will receive the highest positive score for their
classes “main instrument – percussion” and they do not need to take the promotion or final exam.
Laureates who are students in secondary Music Schools in Poland will receive the highest positive grade
for their classes and school report.

14. Laureates of the Competition get priority entry into public secondary schools in Poland as per education
law art.132 signed on 14th December 2016.

§ IV
Sending the signed application form is equivalent to accepting these Rules. The confirmation email regarding
the receipt of the application form is treated as an agreement between the organizer, co-organizers and the
contestant to all points in these Rules.

§V
Each contestant agrees to the following:

1. The organizer retains the right to publish received recordings of individual’s perfomance free of charge:

a) During live stream as per Competion rules

b) For Competition promotion purposes.

2. The Organizer is allowed to record audio and video of the contestants’ image, speech and interviews given
during the Competitions and the Concert. Regarding the Competitions and/or the Concert the participant
gives all property rights and rights to share the recorded material to the Organizer.

3. The Organizer is allowed to use the recorded audio and video materials in full as well as parts of it, modify
it in terms of creating short videos/audio, and translations. The Contestant hereby declares that this usage
will not be treated as an unlawful image use and allows the organizer to mark the material with contestant’s
name and surname.

§ VI
In all aspects that are not related to the responsibilities of the Jury, the Organizers have the right to make
decisons. These decisions are final.

§ VII
1. All issues that may occur in regards to the Rules will be looked into based on the Polish version of this
document.

2. All matters not included in the Rules are subject to Polish jurisdiction.

3. Any legal dispute will be dealt with by Polish court.

§ VIII
Based on art. 13, legislation 1 and 2 of the Ordinance of the European Parliament and Council (EU) 2016/679
from 27th April 2016 treating about the protection of individuals in relation to processing of personal data,
free movement of such data as well as the repeal of the directive 95/46/WE (general data protection act Dz. U.
UE. L. 2016.119.1 from 4th May 2016) called RODO (GDPR) I inform:

The information regarding processing of personal data, a subject of art. 13, legislation 1 and 2 of the
Ordinance of the European Parliament and Council (EU) 2016/679 from 27th April 2016 is included
in the contestants application forms.
