1) Andres Bonifacio, founder of the Philippine secret society movement called
Katipunan, said :
“ Reason tells us to be united in sentiment, in thought, and in purpose in order
that we may have the strength to find the means of combating the prevailing evils
in our country.”
Do you think these words of Bonifacio, made during the fight against Spanish
injustices, have any relevance today ? Why is it important to be united in fighting
evils in our country ? (20 points)
2) The poorer nations of the world have been referred to using different terms, such
as “less developed countries or LDCs, “underdeveloped countries”, “developing
countries”, “the South” and “Third World Countries”. The Philippines is classified
as a developing country while Taiwan and Korea with their economic progress
are referred to as “newly industrialized countries” (NICs).
For the past decades, industrialized democratic countries of the North,
such as the United States have used foreign aid to developing countries for
political reasons. This was to discourage these countries from becoming a
communist.
Do you think communism is still a threat and what could be the reason
why industrialized countries continue to give aid to poorer nations ? (20 points)

1) Social development means investing in people. It requires the removal of barriers

so that all citizens can journey toward their dreams with confidence and dignity. It
is about refusing to accept that people who live in poverty will always be poor. It
is about helping people so they can move forward on their path to self-
sufficiency. What do you think are the measures that should be undertaken by
the government to ensure that the success of society is linked to the well-being of
each and every citizen ? (20 points)

2) To reduce poverty we need to take a social development approach and invest in

our people, our most valuable resources. By investing in people we can reduce
poverty, however, we need to go beyond looking at government to find ways to
develop them. We need to share responsibility with community organizations,
businesses, universities and municipalities in the task of improving the well-being
of all. In your personal capacity, what programs can you propose or initiate in
order to take part in this worthwhile endeavour ? (20 points)
