Hypertension and Diabetes

February 24, 2020

Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension are among the most common diseases and

cardiovascular risk factors, respectively worldwide, and their frequency increases with increasing

age. Elevated blood pressure (BP) values are a common finding in patients with type 2 diabetes

mellitus (T2D) and are thought to reflect, at least in part, the impact of the underlying insulin

resistance on the vasculature and kidney. On the contrary, accumulating evidence suggests that

disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism are more common in hypertensive individuals, thereby

indicating that the pathogenic relationship between diabetes mellitus and hypertension is actually

bidirectional.

As a midwifery student one of our duty is to perform health teaching that will serve as a

big help in preventing this kind of disease. Last February 24, 2020, we performed health teaching

about Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus at Brgy. Lingsat, Bantay, Ilocos Sur @ Balete Tree

Park. The said activity was attended by BHW, Brgy. Officials & Community people. We

introduced to them the brief overview of Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus, Risk Factors,

Signs and Symptoms and its Preventive Measures. After the lecture we had an Open Forum for

their questions after giving answers to their questions. We do the Zumba dance as an exercise.

The community people actively participated and you can observed their enjoyment in the said

activity.

Educating community people is not only to help them gain knowledge but also to

improve and maintain their healthy lifestyle
