Lesson AIMS:
-to practice vocabulary related to modern living
-to predict the main idea of a written and listening activity;
-to solve exercises using new vocabulary from the listening activity
- to form new words solving exercises
- to express opinions.
- to develop students speaking , listening and writing skills

Objectives:
-to identify the main idea of a listening activity
-to recognise words or phrases in order to finish a task
-to solve exercises using proper words
-to feel interest in solving different exercises

TYPES OF INTERACTION: teacher – students

Students interaction: pair work, group work and individual work.


TIME: 50 minutes.
Activity 1 (3 minutes) –Warm up
The teacher greets the students and asks who is absent.
She tries to create a positive, pleasant atmosphere.

Activity 2. (7 min) Lead-in


Teacher’s activity
The teacher starts the lesson by asking the students to remember about their last
discussion and about the fact that they said that ‘’modern’’ means ‘’new’’ and
that their conclusion about the way they choose do dress and act as they feel
comfortable.
She asks them if they think that today society still have customs and hoe those
customs cope with modernity.
The teacher asks them to write on the board words related with the word
custom.
She also writes the title of the lesson and announces the objectives.

Students activity:
They answer teacher’s questions orally and writes words related with the idea of
custom ( tradition, respect, identity)
Interaction: S-S, S-T, T-Ss.
Skills: speaking
Activity 3- 5 min – Pre-listening activity
Teacher’s activity:
Teacher tells them that they will hear an interview about the role of the women
in Japan.
But, first they try to predict if the sentences given by ex. 2.a and b / pg 88 are
correct or not.
They may explain they choice.
Student’s activity:
They work in groups or three or four, make notes trying to predict the
information.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss, S-T
Skills: Listening, writing

Activity 3- 10 min – Listening activity


Teacher’s activity:
Teacher gives them the interview and asks them to pay attention and fill the
missing information on their note books.
At the end of the activity they will write the answers on the board.
If it is necessary the teacher will repeat the interview.

Activity 4 (10 min) – Practice
Teacher’s activity:
The teacher gives them an exercise in order to practice vocabulary related to
customs and traditions- Annex 2
They work in pairs and at the end of the activity write their answers on the
board.
Student’s activity
They work in pairs, and write their answers on the board.

Activity 4 (10 min) –Speaking activity (Production)


Teacher’s activity:
She asks the students to work in pairs and write about the role of the women in
our country making comparison with the women in modern Japan.
The teacher gives the students notes with topics such as: marriage, housework,
entertainment, eating out, family and work, politics, raising children
They write few words on their notebooks and then speak freely.
When everybody have finished, they read their productions.
Student’s activity:
They work in pairs to complete the task.
At the end of the activity they read their answers.
They may correct each other, make any suggestions or bring additional
information.
Interaction: S-S, S-T, T-Ss.
Skills: writing, speaking

Activity 5 –Feedback -3 min


The teacher gives marks to the students who answered and were active and
involved, but she encourages the rest of the class for the activity.

Homework- 2 min
The asks them to write about the most important custom which brings tradition
into modernity.
