Lesson AIMS:
-to enable students to use participle clauses in their own writing
- to make them aware that participle clauses are an economical means
of expression
- to use appropriate vocabulary related movies and films
solving multiple –choice cloze exercise
- to develop students speaking and writing skills

Objectives:
-to identify participle clauses
-to express opinion using participle clauses
-to rise their interest speaking using different ways of expression

TYPES OF INTERACTION: teacher – students

Students interaction: pair work, group work and individual work.


TIME: 50 minutes.

Activity 1 (3 minutes) –Warm up


The teacher greets the students and asks who is absent.

Lead – in- 5 min


Techer’s activity
The teacher asks the students skinning the text from the page 46 and
asks them what does the text show .
Then, she asks them to read the first paragraph about Jurassic Park
and ( if the students couldn’t answer the first question) she asks them
again what the text represents.
Student’s activity
May not all be willing to answer or they cannot but after they read the
text they will eventually give an appropriate answer.
Types of interaction: frontal.
Skills: Speaking, reading, listening.

Activity 2 (15 minutes)


Teacher’s activity
Teacher writes on the board the title of the lesson and announces the
objectives . -Film–review/ Participle clauses
She writes on the board the first sentence of the text and asks students
to rewrite it in the direct speech.
‘’By extracting the blood from a prehistoric mosquito preserved in
amber, scientists are able to develop living dinosaurs. ‘’
She also tells them they Participle clauses are those sentences which
contain a participle instead of a full verb.
They may have the following forms:
-present-verb+ing- extracting, showing, ….
-past-extracted, shown…
-perfect-having extracted, having shown
-passive- being extracted, being shown, having been extracted, shown

Participle clauses can describe:


-events happening at the same time (present participle)
Drinking his coffee slowly, he thought about the problem ( He drank
his coffee slowly…..)
-events happening in a rapid sequence (present participle)
Tearing the envelope open, he took out the letter.(He tore the
envelope open…)
-events happening with a longer time gap between them (perfect
participle)
Having retired, he found himself with time on his hand ( When he had
retired, he found )
-Other time relation used with appropriate conjunctions:
After finishing his speech, he took a sip of water.
Wear protective gloves, when using the equipment.
On arriving you will find someone waiting for you.
- concession when used with an appropriate conjuction
She intends to go despite it being so far.
-cause of reason( perfect participle) (perfect participle)
Nor having had any breakfast , I was hungry.(Because I hadn’t had
any….)
If the subject of the participle clause is not stated, we assume it is the
same as the subject of the main clause.
-Feeling tired he stopped for a cup of tea.
Student’s activity
They may know some information about the topic and they may give
examples.

Activity 3 (10 min)-


Teacher’s activity :
She tell the students that they have to solve ex: 2 ( 1,2,3) page 46 in
pairs on their notebooks
She helps students in need.
She listen their answers and asks students to write answers on the
board.

Activity 4 (15 min)


The students must rewrite exercise 2/47 using the hints and words
given by the text.

Homework and assessment -2 min
The teacher gives the students their homework . They must find an
article (online) in an newspaper written in the style they have already
learnt
