Layunin sa Pagsulat
Ang dalawang pangunahing layunin sa pagsulat:
Ekspresib—maipahayag ang nararamdaman at nasasaloob; kinapapalooban ng sariling
karanasan at palagay
Transaksyunal—magbigay ng impormasyon, interpretasyon, katwiran o pagsusuri;
gumagamit ng mas pormal at kontroladong pamamaraan

Di-pormal na Pagsulat
Ang impormal o di-pormal na pagsulat ang ginagawa kung ang layunin ng manunulat ay
simpleng maipahayag ang sariling saloobin sa paraang natural na pagkukuwento—na
maaaring tungkol sa sariling karanasan o sa ibang tao.

Pormal na Pagsulat
Masasabing pormal ang pagsulat kung:
Pinili ang paksa
Naaayon sa isang maayos na balangkas

Batay sa pananaliksik ang mga impormasyon
Pili ang mga terminong ginagamit batay sa paksang pinili

Uri ng Pagsulat
Ang apat na uri ng pagsulat:
Akademik—pormal ang istruktura at nakabatay sa sinaliksik na kaalaman
Jornalistik—hango sa mga pahayagan tulad ng balita, editoryal, atbp.
Reperensiyal—ang pagtatala ng mga sangguniang gagamitin tulad ng bibliyograpiya
Teknikal—ginagamit bilang panturo o sa pagpapaliwanag sa agham, teknolohiya at
matematika

Anyo ng Pagpapahayag

Pangangatwiran—panghihikayat upang mabago ang paniniwala ng mambabasa

Pagrerebisa ng Sulatin
Ginagawa ang pagrerebisa para maiwasto ang mga inaakalang nagawang mali o di-tiyak
sa sinulat. Sa pag-edit nagdadagdag, nagbabawas o nagpapalit ng mga salita sa
sulatin. Ilang patnubay sa pagrerebisa:
Pag-aralan ang pamaksang pangungusap.
Pakiramdaman ang pag-unlad ng mga kaisipan.
Pansinin ang mga detalye.
Siyasatin ang pagkakaayos ng mga talata.
Isa-isahin ang mga terminong ginamit.
Obserbahan ang daloy ng mga kaisipan.
Pagsamahin ang dalawa o higit pang maiikling pangungusap.
Hatiin ang mahahabang pangungusap.
Gumamit ng mga pangatnig o salitang pantransisyon bilang pang-ugnay.
