General Information
General Information
IntelliCheck®2 Monitor Description
The IntelliCheck2 System is a point level detection system designed to
prevent overfill and spillage of product. It can provide both retained
product indication and product overfill protection for maximum safety.
The IntelliCheck2 System is an ideal secondary overfill protection
system for a wide range of environments and product types.

Features include:
The Intellicheck2 offers a range of features including:
■ overfill prevention
■ retained product monitoring
■ auxiliary inputs
■ complete system diagnostics
■ corrosion-resistant housing
■ scratch-resistant window
■ compatible with Scully’s SP-TO Two-Wire Optic Sensors
■ compatible with Scully’s SP-FU Five-Wire Optic Sensors
The IntelliCheck2 System is suitable for use on single and
multi-compartment vehicles (8-compartments maximum). The
IntelliCheck2 System is user-configured for the number of vehicle
compartments to ensure maximum safety for proper sensor response
should a high level (overfill) condition occur. Installation does NOT
require dummy loads or “terminators” which may be used to bypass
failed sensors or imitate sensors that are not installed.
The IntelliCheck2 System offers compatible outputs for connection to
either Optic, Thermistor, or Float equipped loading terminal rack controls.
Relay output provisions are included for intrinsically safe and non-
intrinsically safe relay connections, for control of vehicle mounted devices.
All IntelliCheck2 Systems include superior diagnostics for sensor status
as well as indication of monitor operation, indication of proper loading
rack connection and self-checking Dynacheck® operation.

General Information

housing that features ample wiring room, allowing for easy installation
and serviceability. It also features a scratch-resistant window for viewing
of the unit’s diagnostic indicators. Indicator light explanations are printed
on the IntelliCheck2 housing cover and module for fast problem-solving.
The IntelliCheck2 System provides the user Faylsafe® operation when
loading at terminals requiring secondary overfill prevention. Faylsafe
operation is incorporated into the Scully design technology by utilizing
Dynacheck, Scully’s unique automatic and continuous self-checking
feature. This feature ensures the IntelliCheck2 monitor and sensors
are being continuously checked for proper wiring, connections and
operation. Should a sensor become wet or a fault develop due to
component failure or wiring, the outputs to the loading rack
controllers are disabled.

Retained Product Monitoring

Optional product retention warning and prevention notifies the
operator of existing product in a compartment. This feature prevents
miscalculation of loading volumes leading to overfills. If existing product
is on board the vehicle prior to loading, the retained feature is configured
to “lock-out” product transfer operation . Operator acknowledgments of
retained product on board the vehicle is required to continue loading, and
is done by activating the retained acknowledge override push button.
Retained product indication also verifies that a complete delivery (drop)
had been made at a service station (retail site) and that the compartment
is completely emptied of its cargo. This feature can also prevent accidental
mixing of different products due to incomplete off-loading of a previous
shipment.
When a retained sensor becomes wet, an internal timer automatically
activates allowing the operator to load for a period of 90 minutes.
After the 90-minute “grace” period has expired, the IntelliCheck2 monitor
becomes non-permissive and shuts down product loading. To reset the
system, retained product must be completely drained from the vehicle or
the retained acknowledge override push button must be activated.
Pushing the button re-initializes the 90-minute grace period timer.
If a retained product sensor becomes faulty due to wiring or circuit
faults, the IntelliCheck2 unit’s internal timer activates. When the

2 Scully Signal Company

90-minute grace period expires, the IntelliCheck2 becomes non-

General Information
permissive until the fault condition is repaired, or the retained
acknowledge override push button is activated. If a fault condition is
indicated after a retained product sensor has indicated that retained
product is present, the IntelliCheck2 unit remains permissive until the
90-minute grace period is exhausted. The grace period also ends after
the rack controller cable is disconnected.
Note 1: All operation and/or fault indicators function
constantly during IntelliCheck2 System operation. Activating
the retained product acknowledge override does not eliminate
visual indication of retained product sensor status.

Auxiliary Switch Input

There is an auxiliary switch input available on TB2 at terminals 6 and 7.
A new factory unit includes a factory-installed jumper across the two
terminals. If the jumper is removed, the AUX IN indicator illuminates
and the IntelliCheck2 System will not permit loading. This switch
input can be used for end-user supplied switch inputs. For instance,
a normally open vapor recovery hose interlock switch could be
connected to the terminals. Using this input, the IntelliCheck2 unit
will not permit until the vapor recovery hose is connected to the
vehicle. The Auxiliary input can connect multiple inputs by simply
connecting all of these in series.

IntelliCheck2 Approvals
The IntelliCheck2 has Factory Mutual and Canadian Standards
Association approvals for Class I, Div. 2, Groups C and D outdoor
locations with intrinsically safe sensor connections for Class I, Div. 1,
Groups C and D hazardous locations in accordance with Scully
drawing 65097. Intrinsically safe connectors for loading rack
connections per Scully drawing 65097.
Associated Equipment [Exia]
Enclosure: Type 4
Warning: Improper connections, component substitution or
tampering may impair intrinsic safety and create hazardous
conditions. The Type 4 rating of the enclosure is negated if the
holes in the enclosure are unplugged/unscrewed or any holes
are drilled into the enclosure.

encapsulated module is non-repairable.
When used properly, contact with the IntelliCheck2 monitor will not
cause physical injury or harm and does not pose non-electrical
dangers. The unit does not produce excessive temperatures, or emit
infrared electromagnetic or ionzing radiation.
IntelliCheck2 System Configuration
This following procedure assumes that you have installed the IntelliCheck2
System on the tanker or trailer and are ready to apply power to the unit.
For safety reasons, the IntelliCheck2 can only be programmed three
times in the field. Be careful to follow the programming steps. If the
unit is programmed more than three times, it will stop working and
must be returned to Scully Signal Company. Call Scully’s Technical
Service Department at 1-800-272-8559 or 617-692-8600 for details.
Caution: Before applying DC battery power to the unit, ensure
that the polarity of the voltage supplied to TB1 is correct.
To check the power:
1. Remove the power leads from TB1. Ensure that neither wire is in
contact with the chassis.
2. Turn on the DC power. Use a multi-meter and select a scale to read up
to 40 volts DC. Touch the negative test lead to the chassis. Connect the
other test lead to the wire which will connect to the TB1 positive (+)
terminal. If the meter reads 11 to 32 volts DC, turn off the power and
re-connect the wires to TB1. If it does not, put the positive test lead on
the other wire. If this other wire reads 11 to 32 volts DC, the wires are
reversed. Turn off the power and re-connect the wires to TB1.

The IntelliCheck2 unit requires individual return signals from each
installed Overfill and Retained Product Sensor. As each sensor sends a
proper Dynacheck return signal to the controller, the IntelliCheck2
monitor compares the number of “good” signals to the configured vehicle
compartment number. If the numbers don’t agree, the monitor becomes
non-permissive and will not allow product loading. This feature prevents
“cheating” of the system by recognizing bypassed sensors.

Installation
Installation
Pre-Installation Requirements
When choosing a location to install the IntelliCheck2 System, these
guidelines must be followed:
■ The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Code.
■ Practical considerations within the jurisdiction of this code.
■ Appropriate industry, national, state and local codes.

Warning: Before beginning installation, the tank compartments

must be completely drained of liquid and be vapor-free.

Mechanical Installation
This is for the location and mechanical mounting of the IntelliCheck2
monitor, sockets and overfill sensors.

Monitor and Socket Installation

The IntelliCheck2 monitor housing and the socket housings should be
mounted to clean, bare surfaces on a metal bracket mounted to the
vehicle frame (chassis). The use of a bracket welded to the frame is
recommended. The area where the mounting bracket and frame
connect should be free of all paint, dirt and oils. This will allow a solid
bond between the frame and the IntelliCheck2 and the socket
housings. The mounting plate surface area under the lock washers and
the nuts used for the mounting plate (for IntelliCheck2 and the socket
housings) should be clean and free of paint so that a good electrical
contact is made to the housings.
The IntelliCheck2 monitor and the socket housings should be mounted
in an area that is centrally located to accommodate the plug connection
from the loading rack. The IntelliCheck2 monitor does not necessarily
have to be located beside the socket housings, but consideration
should be given to accessibility, indicator visibility and ease of wiring.
The IntelliCheck2 monitor should be mounted in an area that is visible
to the operator as well as accessible to service personnel. Clearance
around the module is needed for the installation of conduit entrance

Scully Signal Company 9

compression fittings used to secure the power and signal cables. It is
Installation

important to remember that the connection of the socket housing to

the frame should be a solid bond, less than 0.25 ohm.

Warning: No drilling or welding to the tank’s frame should

take place without first consulting the tank manufacturer.

The use of 5/16" stainless steel mounting bolts and hardware is

recommended. The housing should be placed over the area where the
monitor will be mounted and the mounting hole locations should be
marked, aligning the drilled mounting holes for proper installation.
See outline drawing on page 42 in Section 6 for the hole location.

Overfill Sensor Mounting

The SP-TO or SP-FU sensors should be mounted in each compartment
to permit accessible, in-place testing after the initial installation is
complete. Make sure that the sensor’s sensing level is properly located
in relationship to the Weights and Measures marker (if installed) in
each compartment. All junction boxes, other than the sensor holder
and socket for electrical connections, must be watertight. Scully
recommends using one of the following three types of mounting
methods. Consult the factory for any deviation of these methods.

10 Scully Signal Company

Through-Hole Mounting

Installation
This type of mounting requires that a 2-3/8" hole be cut in the
manhole cover or flange mounted to the tank. The sensor holder is
then inserted into the hole with the gasket (factory-supplied) between
the holder and the tank. It is then secured from the bottom with the
lock nut (factory supplied) See Figure 5 below.

Threaded Coupling
Installation

The Scully sensor holder is supplied with 2" NPT male threads.
A coupling with 2" NPT female threads* (not supplied by Scully) is
welded to the tank or manhole cover and the sensor holder is then
threaded into the coupling. The use of Teflon®‡ tape or anti-seize
compound on the threads is recommended.

Bolted Flange

Installation
The Scully flanged-style sensor holder is also available. This style of
sensor comes with a six-hole, pre-drilled TTMA 2-1/2" flange pattern
and is also spotted with a four-hole bolt pattern that matches older
float sensor mounting patterns. The sensor holder is mounted onto the
tank with the gasket (factory-supplied) between the sensor holder and
the flanged coupling. The sensor holder is then secured to the flange
coupling using appropriate bolts. See Figure 7 below.

Sensor Sensing Height
Installation

Note: It is recommended that an anti-seize lubricant or

equivalent be used on cover screws to facilitate their removal
if the need for service arises.
Caution: When setting the overfill sensing level, take into
consideration the ullage remaining in the compartment and the
emergency shutdown time at the terminals where the vehicle will
be loading. Many loading racks allow approximately 25 to 75
gallons of product to flow while the valve is closing. If insufficient
ullage exists, a spill may occur before product flow stops.
Once the sensor holder has been installed, you must adjust the shut-off
level. The shut-off level is the point at which the sensor signals its high
level condition to the rack controller. As noted above, consideration
should be given to this height to allow for 25 to 75 gallons of product,
which may be allowed to flow before product loading completely stops.
The shut-off level is adjusted by loosening the locking screw inside the
sensor holder. With a twisting motion, move the sensor either up or
down to achieve the desired level. Once the proper level is set, securely
tighten down the lock screw. See Figure 8 below. Refer to installation
instructions supplied with the sensor for further details.

SP-IR Retained Product Sensor

Installation
Figure 9 shows the outline dimensions of a standard length Scully
SP-IR retained product sensor. The sensor is designed to be installed
in the supplied weld coupling or a dimensionally equivalent user
provided mounting arrangement. Scully also offers an extended length
version SP-IR sensor for use in standard applications already using half
couplings or full weld couplings which are longer than the Scully weld
bushings supplied with the standard SP-IR sensor. The extended sensor
offers an additional extension height of 3/4" more than the standard
SP-IR sensor/weld bushing combination. This extra length should be
adequate when retrofitting into most existing/competitive retained
sensor installations. The extended sensor is not intended for use in
the unsafe practice of “stacking” weld bushings and Scully does not
recommend that it be used for this purpose. See Figure 9 below.

Bushing Installation
Installation

The Scully weld coupling should be mounted at the lowest practical

point in the tank compartment. When choosing a mounting location,
ensure that there are no reflective surfaces within 2" directly
above the area where the sensor will be installed. This will prevent
the optic signal from inadvertently reflecting back into the sensor and
sending an erroneous dry indication to the IntelliCheck2 monitor.
The pilot diameter on the factory-supplied bushing is sized to fit into
a 1-1/8" hole in the tank shell. The larger, straight diameter on the
bushing closest to the outside of the tank is intended to allow for a full
penetration weld joint with no voids. Welding of the bushing into the
tank should be in accordance with all applicable industry regulations.
We recommend that a 1/2" NPT pipe plug be installed in the
bushing prior to welding it to the tank. The pipe plug prevents
heat distortion during welding. Use an anti-seize lubricant on the
pipe plug to facilitate removal after welding. Use the lubricant supplied
with the sensor or an equivalent.
Figure 10 shows the Scully weld coupling properly installed in a
typical tank compartment. The dimensions shown in parenthesis are
given for reference only. See Figure 10 below.

Retained Sensor Installation

Installation
The SP-IR sensor features a machined-shear section in accordance with
industry regulations. This shear section is located between the 1" hex
wrench flats and the cast conduit body, junction box section of the
sensor. The sensor must be installed and removed from the tank
using the 1" hex wrench flats.

Caution: Do not attempt to install or remove the sensor by

twisting the cast conduit body section. Sensors damaged due
to twisting of the conduit body are not covered by warranty.

The sensor is supplied with a small tube of FEL-PRO C5A copper-

based anti-seize thread lubricant. This anti-seize lubricant must be
liberally applied to the sensor male (1/2" NPT) mounting thread
prior to installation into the weld coupling.

Caution: Galled sensor mounting threads resulting from failure

to use the proper anti-seize thread lubricant are not covered
by warranty.

After application of the anti-seize lubricant, screw the sensor clockwise

into the weld coupling hand-tight. Wrench-tighten the sensor securely
using a 1" open-end wrench on the sensor hex wrench flats. For wiring
purposes, pay close attention to conduit port alignment as the sensor is
tightened. Always tighten the sensor slightly more, never loosen, to
gain proper wiring conduit port alignment. Refer to sensor installation
instructions supplied with the sensor for further details.

Electrical Installation
Note: We strongly suggest the use of a Scully IntelliCheck2
wiring installation kit. Wire installation kits include conductor
cable, cable compression fittings and crimp-on connectors.
Depending on the vehicle compartment and sensor type, the
conductor cable included in the installation kit will be either
100’ 7-conductor or 200’ 11-conductor.

Refer to the Appendix for detailed electrical connections. The diagrams

illustrate wiring for a maximum of eight (8) compartments and
IntelliCheck2 output connections for both Thermistor and Optic
vehicle-mounted sockets. Sensor connections to TB3 and TB4 need

Scully Signal Company 17

only consist of the actual number of compartment sensors installed.
Installation

All wire splices should be made in the watertight sensor holder junction
boxes to facilitate service replacement of sensors and to prevent premature
wiring failures due to corrosion. Continuity of the compartment sensor
wiring to the appropriate compartment designation at TB3 and TB4 must
be maintained to aid in the ease of diagnosing system faults. The best way
to do this is to use color-coded wires matching the wiring diagrams in the
Appendix of this manual.

Sensor Wiring — General

fitting in one of the entrance holes, the other should be blocked-off
with the supplied 1/2" NPT plug (or M20 x 1.5 plug). Measure the
cable from holder-to-holder, taking into consideration that enough
cable should be left at each end (approximately 10") for wiring.
Cables should be measured, to allow them to be brought out at right
angles to the rollover rails. See Figure 11 below.

approximately 8.5 inches of the outer cable insulation, exposing the
inner conductors, and feed the cable through the compression
fittings and tighten. It is a good idea to apply a small amount of
silicone RTV sealant to the outside of the cable before pushing it
through the compression fitting. See Figure 12 below. This will fill
any small air space that may be left after tightening the compression
fitting around the cable. This will also prevent condensation from
seeping through. At the last compartment sensor, feed a length of
the Scully cable down the back of the vehicle. Be sure to neatly
anchor the cable as you go to the IntelliCheck2 monitor.

exposing the color-coded wires inside. Do not tighten down
the compression fittings until you have made the appropriate
wiring connections as detailed in the wiring diagram at the end of
this manual.

IntelliCheck2 to Socket Wiring
Installation

Remove the plastic pipe plug(s) where needed along the right side
conduit entry ports of the monitor. Refer to the Appendix for the
wiring diagram and to Figure 14 for wiring port location. Port E is for
the optic socket connection. Port D is for the Thermistor socket
connection. Feed the Scully cable through a compression fitting for
each socket into the appropriate entry port. Leave about 3 inches of
extra cable inside the IntelliCheck2 housing for connection and future
service. See Figure 13 below.

Port A Port C

Port B Port D

Port E

Port F Port G Port H

Figure 13 — IntelliCheck2 Conduit Port Identification

Run the cable(s) to the socket(s), anchoring the cable in a neat fashion
where needed. Install a compression fitting into one of the conduit
entrance holes that will best suit the installation. Feed the cable through a
compression fitting approximately 10 inches into the socket housing.
Strip back the cable insulation cover to expose the color-coded wires. Use
the wiring diagram supplied with the module or refer to the
Appendix diagram on pages A1-A2 to make connections to the
socket. Connect the cable wires by their appropriate color to the
corresponding pin numbers of the socket according to the socket style
and type, Optic or Thermistor. To make pin connections, strip about 1/4"
off each cable lead exposing the wire inside. Loosen the pin set screw.

compression fittings. As previously recommended, it is a good idea to
apply a small amount of silicone RTV sealant around the outside of the
cable before pulling it through all the way. This will fill air space that
may allow condensation to enter the housing and corrode the wire
contacts.
At the monitor, connect the socket leads by their appropriate color.
To make the connection, strip about a 1/4" off each cable lead. Slip the
exposed wire into the corresponding number pin of the Optic or
Thermistor terminal block.

IntelliCheck2 Monitor Power Wiring

Note: It is important that the IntelliCheck2 be grounded at the
electrical ground of the trailer/vehicle and not chassis ground.
It is strongly recommended that the power wires run directly
from the IntelliCheck2 Monitor to the power source rather than
through electrical junction boxes to ensure proper voltage and
grounding.
Connect power to the module. We recommend the use of 18-gauge
wire or the Scully cable using only the red and black wires. Feed the
cable through a compression fitting and insert through PORT A on the
monitor. Refer to the diagram. See the Appendix for wire connection
drawing at TB1. Strip about 1/4" off each end of the black and red
wires. Insert the exposed black wire into the TB1 negative (–) contact
#2 and tighten. Insert the exposed red wire into the TB1 positive (+)
contact #1 and tighten.
Connect the other end of the cable at the trailer nose plug electrical
connector. Connect the red wire to the blue center pin of the trailer
lighting connection (this is an accessory power connection). Connect
the black wire to the large white pin (this is the trailer ground reference
connection). If it is a straight truck vehicle, connect it to an accessory
power connection from the battery. The use of an in-line fuse (supplied
with the IntelliCheck2) between the vehicle power and the positive (+)
side of TB1 is highly recommended.

Note: * A fuse is not supplied with the CENELEC models of

IntelliCheck2. If the fuse is located in a hazardous zoned area on
the vehicle, a fuse suited for the location must be selected.

Scully Signal Company 21

This provides protection against a short that may blow the internal fuse
Installation

in the IntelliCheck2 module. This internal fuse is not replaceable.

A 1/2-AMP fuse is recommended for the in-line fuse connections. After
making this connection, it is a good idea to use an ohmmeter to make
sure no short exists between the two connections of TB1.
After all the connections to the module are made, apply a small
amount of white lube or non-conductive grease to all of the
connections at TB1, TB2, TB3, TB4, TB5 and TB6 (if used) to
prevent corrosion.

Non I.S. Relay Contact Output

IntelliCheck2 provides a relay contact output on TB6 that can be used
to drive a non-intrinsically safe load. The output can be used to switch
a solenoid valve or another external relay. Contact the factory for
specific application.

Cover Tightening
Place the gasket, window and cover onto the housing and tighten in
numeric sequence as shown in Figure 14. After the cover is secure,
power can be supplied to the unit for diagnostic evaluation.

Diagnostics
Diagnostics
Sensor Diagnostics
Each sensor has an indicator light for its status located horizontally
across the top of the module, behind the clear window of the housing. A
quick reference for sensor diagnosis is listed on the outside cover. (Not
only does the indicator show the status of a sensor condition, wet or dry,
it also gives the sensor connection fault status and sensor operation fault
indication as well.) The diagnostic indicators allow the user to diagnose
any IntelliCheck2 System problem quickly and efficiently without having
to take voltage or resistance readings to locate a fault.
The red OVERFILL SENSOR or RETAINED SENSOR indicator light
conditions are as follows:
■ Red Light Off — Sensor is operating normally. (In this state, the green
permit indicator is on and the Dynacheck indicator is flashing.)
■ Red Light On (not flashing) — Sensor is immersed in product.
(In this state, the green permit indicator is off and the Dynacheck
indicator is flashing.) This situation could also indicate a faulty
sensor. An open output within the sensor would also cause a solid
red indication.
■ Red Light Is Flashing Slowly (as compared to the Dynacheck
Indicator) — The sensor return line connection is open. (In this state,
the green permit indicator is off and the Dynacheck indicator is flashing.)
■ Red Light Is Flashing At Medium Speed (equal to the Dynacheck
Indicator) — The sensor circuitry is faulty. (In this state, the green
permit indicator is off and the Dynacheck indicator is flashing.)
■ Red Light Is Flashing Fast (as compared to the Dynacheck
Indicator) — The sensor return line is shorted to ground or another
return signal line. (In this state, the green permit indicator is off and
the Dynacheck indicator is flashing.)
Note: Fault conditions are listed as the highest probability of
failure. Sensor circuit failures, depending on the part of the
circuitry that fails, may exhibit fault conditions similar to the
previously mentioned indications.

Scully Signal Company 23

IntelliCheck2 System Diagnostics
Diagnostics

The IntelliCheck2 controller has diagnostic indicators that report on

several aspects of system operation. These diagnostics are:
■ PERMIT— When this green indicator is on and all red sensor
indicators are off, the IntelliCheck2 System is ready to receive input
from the loading rack terminal equipment.
■ Dynacheck — When this green indicator is pulsing, the
IntelliCheck2 module is functioning. The pulsed indication signifies
the IntelliCheck2 System and its module are self-checking. Should
the module indicate a faulty sensor, the Dynacheck indicator will
continue to pulse as it constantly self-checks all other system
components for proper operation.
■ AUX IN — This red indicator gives status of ancillary switches or
connections made to the IntelliCheck2 System to satisfy loading
operation requirements. If this light is on, it means that the
factory-installed jumper has been removed from TB2 terminals 6
and 7 and/or one or more of the normally open switches wires to
this input are open. This red indicator will only turn off when there
is a closed circuit between terminal TB2 6 and 7.
■ RACK A — This red indicator gives the status of connection to the
Thermistor or Optic terminal loading rack controllers. The red
indicator is off when connected to an Optic rack controller
indicating proper optic signal reception. Or, the red indicator is off
when connected to a Thermistor rack controller indicating proper
Thermistor signal reception.
■ RACK B — This red indicator gives the status of connection to the
Thermistor or Optic terminal loading rack controllers. The red
indicator is off when connected to an Optic rack controller
indicating optic signal output. Or, the red indicator is off when
connected to a Thermistor rack controller indicating proper
Thermistor signal reception.
Note: Failures such as broken or shorted wires, electronic
component failures or intermittent connections, will not allow the
system to operate properly when connected to the Scully rack
controller. Steps should be taken using the previous information
to determine the area of fault and to take corrective action.

Section 5
Preventive Maintenance

Preventive Maintenance
The following procedures are intended to be helpful hints to extend the
life of your equipment (in no way should this be inferred as Scully
installation procedures.)

Electrical Connections
After connecting the cable leads to the sensor wires using butt-splice
connections or wires nuts, apply silicone or other non-conductive
grease to the opening on the connector. Do the same for the module
terminal connections TB1, TB2, TB3, TB4, TB5 and TB6. This helps
keep moisture out and helps prevent corrosion on the connections.

Installation of Scully’s Cable

Perform this step when connecting cable to the sensors, sockets and
monitor. When feeding the cable through the strain relief, apply a little
silicone to the outer insulation near the strain relief. If you choose to
use this method, pulling the cable through the holder forces the
silicone to fill the airspace around the cable. When you tighten the
strain relief down, there will be an additional watertight seal and less
chance of moisture getting into the holder, socket and monitor
housing.

Socket Preventive Maintenance

To help prevent socket wear, follow the recommendations below.

J-Slots
Apply some white lube or thin non-conductive grease to the J-slots
located on the side of the socket faceplates. This helps prevent
corrosion and excessive wear.

Socket Contact Face

The socket contact face is the actual area of the socket that makes
electrical contact with the rack plug. Apply some white lube or thin
non-conductive grease to the wiring connections of the contact surface.
This helps prevent oxidation and keeps the pins free and clear of dirt.

26 Scully Signal Company

Socket Housing Gasket

Preventive Maintenance
Whenever the socket faceplate is removed, the gasket should be
visually inspected for wear or cracks which may allow moisture to seep
into the housing. Although rubber gaskets can typically be reused a
couple of times before they begin to wear, it is our recommendation
that these gaskets be replaced each time the cover assembly is removed.
This method assures optimum protection against the elements.

Socket Housing
When inspecting the wiring within the socket housing, it is important
to note any corrosion build-up that may be present in the socket
housing. Typically it is in the form of white powder. The white powder
can be removed by dampening a rag with some transmission fluid and
wiping the area clean. Once the white powder is removed, take a
second rag dampened with transmission fluid and wipe the cleared
surface on the inside of the socket housing. This will act as an inhibitor
against corrosive build-up in the future. Make sure that the drain hole
at the bottom of the socket is clear of all corrosion as well. To verify
this, use a steel pick and run it through the drain hole to force out any
corrosion that has formed within the hole that would stop
condensation from flowing out of the socket housing.

Sensor Holder Maintenance

To help limit corrosive build-up, the following is recommended:

Sensor Holder Caps

Check the cap O-ring for integrity any time the sensor holder cap is
removed. Stretch the ring slightly to see if cracks are present. Cracks in
the O-ring would be a sign that the compound is drying out. O-ring
defects will not allow the sensor holder to properly compress and seal.
O-rings showing cracks should be replaced. Before securing the sensor
holder cap to the base, coat the screw threads with an anti-seize
compound for increased serviceability in the future. This helps protect
the screw and base threads against damage that may occur as a result
of corrosion.

Scully Signal Company 27

Sensor Holder Base
Preventive Maintenance

When inspecting the wiring inside the sensor holder base, it is

important to note any corrosion build-up that may be present.
Typically it is in the form of white powder. The white powder can be
removed by dampening a rag with some transmission fluid and wiping
the area clean. Once the white powder is removed, take a second rag
dampened with transmission fluid and wipe the cleared surface on the
inside of the socket housing.

IntelliCheck2 Monitor
To limit the amount of moisture build-up, the following is
recommended:

Cover Removal
Whenever the IntelliCheck2 monitor cover is removed, the gasket
should be inspected for visual wear or cracks that might allow moisture
to seep into the housing. Although rubber gaskets can typically be
reused a couple of times before they begin to wear, it is our
recommendation that these gaskets be replaced each time the cover
assembly is removed for optimum protection against the elements.

Cover Tightening
Whenever the cover is placed onto the housing, it is important to
tighten the 12 bolts in proper numeric sequence shown in Figure 14
on page 24.

Housing
When inspecting the wiring within the IntelliCheck2 housing, it is
important to note any corrosion build-up that may be present on or
within the housing itself. If noted, it can be removed by dampening a
rag with some transmission fluid and wiping the area clean. When
installing the module into the housing, it is also recommended that a
suitable anti-seize compound be applied to the four mounting screws
prior to installation to help future serviceability.

Overfill and Retained Product Monitoring
Quick Programming
Guide

Model Part Numbers 09107, 09110, 09115, 09119

The Overfill and Retained Product Monitoring Units are used
when there are Sensors installed in the top and bottom of the com-
partments. This unit will indicate prior to loading if there
is product remaining in any of the compartments and will not
let loading begin until all compartments are empty.
1. Turn off power to the unit. Remove all sensor wiring connected
to TB3 and TB4.

2. Attach a jumper wire from TB3-GND to the overfill sensor TB3

terminal which equals the number of compartments in the tanker.
For instance, when programming for a 4-compartment tanker,
install a jumper wire from TB3-GND to TB3 Terminal 4.

3. Attach a jumper wire from TB4-GND to the retained sensor

TB4 terminal 4.

4. Apply power to the IntelliCheck2.

5. Using our four compartment example, OVERFILL SENSOR indi-

cators 1 through 3 flash slow and indicator 4 flashes fast.
RETAINED SENSOR indicators 1 through 3 flash slow and indica-
tor 4 flashes fast. The Dynacheck® light will be flashing.
The RACK A and RACK B indicators will be on steady. Do not
remove power until you see this response.

6. Remove power from TB1 and remove all programming jumpers.

7. Connect all sensor wiring to TB3 and TB4 and turn on power.

8. If necessary, correct any sensor wiring problems or faults shown

by the compartment indicators.
