Embracing the perspectives of relationships with nature and relationships with people, this
program solicits proposals for practical projects aimed at resolving challenges that face
communities in Asia. Three project areas have been established: (1) relationships with nature,
(2) culture, and (3) social systems. The program supports efforts to establish networks among
neighbors and facilitate the creation of communities, as well as efforts to eliminate obstacles
to these activities, and other types of practical projects that incorporate new viewpoints,
energy, and insights while maintaining respect for the wisdom embodied in traditional culture
and lifestyles.

The people of Asia have traditionally applied a variety of creative approaches in the effort to
make our lives better in their daily life, such as by leading their lives in the midst of
relationships with nature and cultivating culture in their relationships with other people.

Amid the rapid advance of economic globalization, contemporary societies characterized by

dynamic movements of people, goods and information are introducing communities(*1) to
new forms of culture, social systems and relationships with nature. These developments,
however, have also disclosed many problems such as inadequacies in various systems and
frameworks of the past.

In light of this situation, it is essential to reevaluate our connections to nature and to other
people, and to construct living communities that can be sustained into the future.

This program supports pragmatic projects devoted to bringing Asian neighbors(*2) together
and helping to form new communities, and to addressing the problems that confront
communities. We hope to receive proposals that incorporate diverse perspectives on
challenges emerging in contemporary society and that can contribute to promoting the
creation of communities.
