Re: Unit 3 Project proposal

Date: November 12, 2010

Introduction
The purpose of this memo is to create an individual project for unit 4 in English 320. The project
that I chose will be about tourism in Tanzania and I will make power point slides. This memo
will include the proposal, objectives, method, timeline, grading rubric and the sources that I will
use.

Proposal
Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism
Organization defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual
environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for
leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from
within the place visited". Through this project I would also like to learn about the importance,
problems and solution of tourism in Tanzania. I chose the project about tourism in Tanzania
because I will be able to use the power point in my future presentations. I am international
student who is majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management, so I would also like to take
this golden opportunity to learn more about tourism in Tanzania and share my knowledge with
other people who are interested in knowing about tourism in Tanzania or other people who
would like to come for a safari in Tanzania. Tanzania has 15 national parks and seven game
reserves. The Tanzania industry’s mission statement that forms the basis of the tourism policy is
to develop sustainable quality tourism that is ecologically friendly to the conservation and
restoration of the environment and its people’s culture. In so doing the industry seeks to
maximize the net gains that emanate from the various tourism activities. It is for this reason that
the Government is now highly concerned with the improvement of the infrastructure quality and
diversity, ease of destination entry formalities, relaxation of foreign exchange regulations and
controls, revision of applicable taxes and maintenance of peace, stability and security. As a
stimulant, the private sector is increasingly investing in the various tourist plants, improvement
of destination access from major sources and within marketing promotion and training of the
human resource.

Writing
I will make slides in my power point whereby I will include headings, sub headings and bullets
points. I will create a minimum of 15 slides and it will include introduction, advantages,
disadvantages, activities that people can do when they come for safari in Tanzania. I will make
sure that my power point is easy to read and vey interesting.

Visual
In my power point I will incorporate a video clip which will show different national parks and
the island that we have in Tanzania, and I will also include some pictures in my power point.

Objectives
My goal for this assignment is to let other people know about the beautiful national parks, game
reserves, and the Spice Island in Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the unique destinations on the
African continent that has yet to be discovered by many. My objectives for this project are as
follows:

 I will learn more about tourism in Tanzania. My power point will be easy to read,
understandable, and I will also use it for my future presentations in other classes.
 I will use my power point to encourage other people to come for a safari in Tanzania so
that they can enjoy and make a memorable vacation in Africa.
 I will use this power point to advertise Tanzania tourism

Methods
1. I will conduct research and write on the pros and cons (socially, economically) about
tourism in Tanzania.
2. Through this project I will use different sources to learn about activities that tourists can
do in Tanzania.
3. I will read more articles about tourism in Tanzania and include some points in my power
point
4. I will learn though research and observation of existing documents about tourism in
general and incorporate the ideas in my power point
5. I will be starting to put the slides for the power point, adding the writing and the visual
parts in November before the final project is due
6. I will talk to my uncle for some feed back because he works in the tourism board in
Tanzania.
