Merhaba…
Deðerli Öðretmen Dostlarýmýz
Sevgili Öðrenciler,
Yeni öðretim yýlýna baþlarken tüm dostlarýmýza ve sevgili
öðrencilerimize saðlýk, esenlik ve baþarýlar diliyoruz.
Bu “Merhaba” yazýmýzda sizlere yararlý olacaðýný umduðumuz bazý
deðerlendirmelerimizi paylaþmak istiyoruz.
Birincisi, sýnava giren abonelerimizden bize ulaþan veriler ve
sonuçlarýyla ilgili. ELS ile hazýrlanýp sýnava girenlerin “dil neti” 95-98 net aralýðýnda
yoðunlaþmýþ ve önemli sayýda abonemiz 99-100 dil netine ulaþmýþtýr. Ancak bazý
abonelerimizin dildeki bu baþarýlarý, sýralamaya ayný ölçüde yansýmamýþtýr. Bunun

birikimiyle ELS’in katkýsýnýn önemini sizler de takdir ediyorsunuz.

GRAMMAR INSIDE and OUT’un ve ENGLISH THROUGH READING’in Intermediate ve

12. sýnýfta dergiler, TEST YOUR VOCABULARY kitabý ve okuma kitabýnýn kalan bölümü

ELS-YDS

Sevgili Öðrenciler,
2007-2008 yayýn dönemi ELS-YDS hazýrlýk dergimizin ilk sayýsýnýn daðýtýmýna
31.08.2007 tarihinde baþlanacak ve 23.05.2008 tarihinde 35. sayýmýzýn yayýmlanmasýyla
birlikte set tamamlanacaktýr. 720 sayfadan oluþan gramer kitabýmýz ENGLISH GRAMMAR
INSIDE and OUT birinci sayýmýzla birlikte sizlere ulaþacaktýr.

TEST YOUR VOCABULARY bölümlerinin yaný sýra, bu yýl, son on yýlda ÖSS-YDS’de
kullanýlmýþ sözcükleri kullanarak oluþturduðumuz YDS-VOCABULARY testlerimiz, 1.
sayýdan itibaren dergilerde yer alacaktýr.

l YDS-Ýngilizce sýnavýndaki soru yoðunluðunu dikkate alarak birinci sayýdan itibaren

üzerinde özel olarak durulan diðer bir konu PHRASAL VERBS and PREPOSITIONS
konusudur.

birinci sayýdan baþlayarak her sayýda READING COMPREHENSION çalýþmalarýna yer

The dodo bird used to live on the tropical islands of Mauritius, off the southeastern coast of
Africa, in the Indian Ocean. At about 23 kilograms, the dodo was a very large bird, and so,
different from a lot of birds, it was not able to fly. It lived entirely on the ground and nested
there. This was not a problem for the dodo, because it had no enemies: the dodo was, in a
way, the king of the islands of Mauritius. The dodo’s diet was made up of fruit, mostly the fruit
of the tambalacoque tree. When humans first came to the islands of Mauritius in the early 16th
century, the dodo did not fear them at all, because it had lived for such a long time without any
enemies. Many people believe that humans then became the first enemies of the dodo, and
killed them in large numbers for meat or for sport. However, recent discoveries have
suggested that this did not happen: dodo meat was considered too tough and bad-tasting to
eat, so it was almost never eaten except in great emergency. There is no evidence to suggest
that mass killings of dodos for sport ever happened, either. But humans did kill dodos
indirectly: they brought animals like dogs, cats, pigs, and rats to Mauritius, and these ate dodo
eggs. Also, humans destroyed the forests where the dodos lived. As a result of these severe
changes, the dodo had become extinct by the end of the 17th century.
